don't know where we all fall on the ED spectrum as far as diagnosis is concerned, but i have EDNOS. i was at an appointment at the wound clinic recently. i was asked my weight, which i am not allowed to know. i told the nurses i didn't know. they looked shocked and asked why. i said i have an ED, and am not supposed to know as it's a trigger. the nurse actually said "what's that?" really? how would a medical professional not know?!!!!!!!!! i'm sick of having to explain it! anybody else have this happen? and then, my mom came over and started talking about stomach pain she has. i suggested she get to a doctor and sugnigested she talk to the doc about omeprazole. she asked why i take it and why i have stomach pain. i told her i c/s. and she said, "i think you made up your own ED because i've never heard of that." really?!!!!!!!! and then she asked about the definition of EDNOS. i told her and i mentioned the DSM4 and she said "anorexia and bulemia are MENTAL ILLNESSES?!" she was floored, and i was like WOW! these are just a few examples of reactions i've had from people. i know that ED's in general are misunderstood, but EDNOS especially deserves more attention and research . i get these reactions a lot.so, since i love writing, doing research, and talking to people, i thought i might start a blog. it would give me more writing experience, and allow me to keep learning about psychology. i really enjoy psychology for some reason. i am thinking that maybe god wants me to go back to school to get a christian counseling degree. i'm thinking this because it seems that every time i revisit the topic of ED's in writing or talking about it, people generally respond positively. i got an A- on a psychology and literature paper on anorexia and the novel wintergirls. my EDNOS article was published TWICE. i really feel like god has his hand in this in many ways.but i do have some concerns about the blogging idea.first, i love helping people, but i tend to be a little overboard with it. i get in this area where i want to "fix" or "rescue" people. and i feel bad when i can't make someone feel better or make their pain go away. second, triggers...i've never intentionally triggered myself, but what about other people triggering me? third, i suppose this may be a non-issue since my article is out. i am looking for a writing job, and am scared of this possibly hurting my employment chances. what do you think? good or bad idea? would you read a blog like this? what kinds of things would you like to see on a blog like this? what do you wish people knew about ED's? any other suggestions or comments would be helpful.
