My first impression was a chocolatey smell and it does smell somewhat like dirt, but it also sort of smells like garbage, which in a way, I suppose it is garbage. You have inspired me to make lots of compost as I have a lot of green waste to get rid of. My questions are; firstly, your compost bins have lids, how do they not dry out? Often when gardening for others I take a lid of a compost bin to find bone dry plant matter which is not decomposing.
After brekkie we decided to go on one of the many walks around the estate. It’s such a peaceful green patch that there horse ears are few reminders of what lays outside. Our walk is followed by lunch at the Coach House Deli in the spa complex.

I will deviate for a moment to say that I can remember the first cattle trucks that brought stock to the monthly Wednesday Campden cattle market. The heavy back doors were not spring loaded as they are today and it would take every effort of a couple of strong men to lift and close those doors. At Springhill Estate near Broadway Tower Captain Hannay had a team of Suffolk Punch horses distinctive both in colour and size. Three of these, two pulling empty two-wheeled tip-carts would trot down into Campden and on to the station.

Maybe the quality of compost was not brilliant but without seeing your site it’s hard to be sure but I would not worry, see how it looks at the beginning of March, maybe run a rake lightly through the surface to check. Is plywood safe to use around the vegetable garden in the UK? I’ve been googling but I can find out how to tell whether it has been treated with CCA or not like you can with pallets. We’ve seen some sheets asking to be scrounged in a skip nearby, hence me asking!! We’d like to use it to line our compost bins made from pallets. And those wood chips will be good for pathways but always on the surface, not dug in and likewise in a compost heap, they would take 2 to 3 years to break down so I would not use them fresh for that.
Adjoining the studio is the Café serving delicious homemade treats. The museum shop has a range of books, unique gifts and souvenirs. Munnings’ war works were much admired at the time and proved to be pivotal in the development of his career, helping to transform him from a successful provincial artist to one of international renown. The furniture, objects and personal items belonging to Sir Alfred and Lady Munnings remain in situ and the museum welcomes visitors to sit and enjoy the ambience of their home. The jewel in the crown is our “Cumbrian Classic Ride” the week-long tour around the Lake District National Park on our gorgeous horses.
I realize now that I sent all my brown waste from the autumn tidy to the tip when I could have put it in my newly constructed bin. After opening the bottom yesterday I noticed it being very dark and a few bits not being decomposed. I am sure I am being very naive, but my avocado stones are totally untouched by the decomposition process.
