A stark contrast to the rhythmic clopping of horses that the town had been used to. The daily walk to and from school was so much more exciting the days the steam engines came chugging and puffing their way along the road delivering goods. Flowers of Stratford upon Avon delivered casks of cider and beer to the Campden pubs and Healings of Tewkesbury brought flour to Heritages’ bakery. These iron monsters with their coal fires, chimneys and solid rubber tyres were impressive indeed. The front wheels were powered by the steam and the back wheels were driven by chains and sprockets.
I have basically been a prisoner in my own home for two and a half months. This pitch type offers a hardstanding pitching area for your outfit with electric hook up. When ground conditions permit, , or as indicated by the site staff, you may also erect an awning on the 3m grass area within the pitch area however this cannot be guaranteed at all times. Awnings cannot be sited on the hardstanding area at any time. The first lorry my Father bought was a Ford T 30cwt which my brother George drove. It had a two-speed pedal, no gears and was very noisy and slow when climbing hills. We mostly used it to carry our fruit to Evesham market, so all through the winter it was parked up until we re-licensed it the following summer.
Located on the beautiful north Cornwall in England’s south west St Ives is a popular seaside holiday destination known for its busy harbour and stunning views. The picture-postcard pretty town is set on the sweeping St Ives Bay with its long stretch of golden beaches. Mousehole is best visited during the hot summer months, when you can grab an ice cream and casually stroll along the beautiful harbour. While the area is packed in between June to August, especially when the weather is scorching, you can try to come earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. There are limited parking spaces, however, and it’s quite a narrow drive down and back up .

Ripeness means that a heap’s warmth has mostly gone, because the processing is finished. Often brandling worms arrive at this point, and heaps become wormeries of reduced quantity, increased quality. It can saddle pad take up to six months before worms appear in my heaps at Homeacres, which are too warm for worms until that point, except in winter. Thomas Dewsbery had started at Evesham station as a clerk and by the 1861 census was a station agent; he was Station Master at St Pancras at the time of his marriage in 1863, having previously held that position at Evesham.
It’s covering the target bed to a depth of about 2 feet at present but of course will sink quite quickly. The reeds have a lot of brown material from last year’s growth, soft roots and come with a small amount of (non-smelly) silt. I’ve left them on the bank for some days and am now slowly shifting them in barrowloads to the bed. The yellow flag iris is the only thing I think could survive and grow in the bed.
We are currently developing some areas of the site but would hope that this is not creating any inconvenience to our visitors. I herd it could contain weedkiller from the hay which could affect the veg. If it does would putting this on the compost for 3/4 months kill this off and be safe to use on the plot.
As our stores are all laid out as rooms, I have for some time wanted to include artworks in our collections. They are needed to complete the feeling of a home and it has created a wonderful opportunity to work with Helen again. We have added a small selection of paintings to most of our stores now but are now able to showcase a full collection here, in our virtual gallery. I’ve visited a few already, but definitely adding more to my list. There are manythings to do in Portmeirion.From enjoying the delights of the colourful village, to several forest or coastline walks.
“We’ve seen glomalin on the outside of the hyphae, and we believe this is how the hyphae seal themselves so they can carry water and nutrients. It may also be what gives them the rigidity they need to span the air spaces between soil particles”. During 2022 I am developing this method of compost-making at Homeacres, and shall have more to report before the end of the year. Rhubarb leaves and citrus peel are good to compost, I know from experience. Eggshells bring structure to a heap but decompose slowly, often ending un mulches on top. I take deliveries of such compost and measure temperatures of 60C, even though the appearance is ‘like compost’, black and crumbly.
I recently moved to a larger piece of land for some privacy, and will be establishing my garden using no-dig principles. During my first 6 months, I managed to make a fair amount of compost. However, the compost was not finished breaking down before I created beds (though cooled off, it doesn’t resemble humus as this point…I’m thinking another turn and a few more months would have been prudent. Lesson learned). I’ve been making my own compost for less than a year, and realised that I have too many greens and not enough browns. I read that sawdust is a source of browns, and have been told that a variety of places in the London borough I live are likely to offer free sawdust. One place has told me it will be a mix of hard, soft and MDF wood, and wanted to check what you thought before I go adding it to my heaps.
