I adopted my dog from a shelter and will always get my fur kids from shelters.Have you seen the documentary \"Madonna of the Mills\"? she rescues dogs that have been breed too many times, from mills. they talk about asking people to get their pets from shelters not pet shops or through the paper. hugs hon xoxo

Never new about Madonna at all. Lets hope lots of people will adopt or foster our 4 legged friends who become family members in a short time.

never heard of it either. another one is pitt bulls and parolees. rn told me about that today. she buys warehouse properties and houses the dogs there and then hires parolees to take care of them. she gets the lists from the prisons. wow! her\'s is in louisiana. i think rn wants to do that as well. similar to the bad rap rescue for pitts but done a different way.

i\'d probably be more of a madonna person with small dogs, i\'ll have to watch the documentary, though dogs are a lot more work than cats. i\'ve done both and ONE DOG is as much work as like TEN cats. cats are easier, though kittens can be a handful. even with that, puppies are worse...i haven\'t even tried the large animal thing yet, like pigs, goats, horses....lots of rescue out there that needs to get done and people to do it....

a nasty secret. All of those cute puppies that are sold in pet stores come from puppy mills. Their mothers spend their entire lives in tiny, unsanitary cages, never walked, never petted, never doing anything but making puppies . When these dogs can no longer produce litters or money for their owners, they are put to death stoned, shot, drowned or starved.

Madonna of the Mills is a documentary about Laura, an office manager from Staten Island, who stumbled on this secret four years ago (2006) and vowed to save as many of these breeding dogs as she possibly could. Laura has now rescued over 2,000 dogs from Amish and Mennonite farmers in Pennsylvania. In the process, she has forever changed her life and the lives of those families fortunate enough to adopt one of these remarkable puppy mill survivors.

Check out Madonna of the Mills at the HBO Documentaries website!

Way to go Laura f

I\'ve not seen \"Madonna of the Mill\". But I have seen \"Pit Bulls and Parolees\". She does a great job.

What is the one about the \"Little Person\" who rescues Pit Bulls?? I forget the name but he does a great job. It\'s on the Animal Planet channel.

Pit Boss

Carly, I looked it up and sent you a message on it. The man is a former Hollywood actor who credits pitbulls as saving his life when he was a teenager. He is returning the favor by saving pitbulls as his charity, along with other actors of small stature. In real life the charity is called shorty\'s and they save pittbulls.
