PHOTO: plaited/braided palm leaves with pink flowers//singer at church
when i'm an old old woman (if) i'm going to learn how to plait and braid palm leaves. seriously. a new bucket list for my extremely old age, if i ever live that long.
Its mid-April, so TONS going on. w says there will be berries for only another ten days or so, so pick them now. picked a small bag of blackberries. its a tricky thing. you hold the berry lightly with your fingers, if it comes right off, its ripe, if you have to pull it at all, its not ripe. sometimes the berries fall before you can catch it. that is why having those big white cloths under the huge berry bush (which is the size of a tree) is important. the way it is without it, hopefully the squirrels will eat the berries. or raccoons?
all the fertile and rebirth stuff starts this month (as well as orphaned kittens (neonatals) needing bottlefeeding, i wish they would announce the need for foster homes for pregnant mom cats and bottlefeeders at church.the next two weeks will be religious. this week is "palms week" and then it starts AGAIN if greek easter is a different sunday this year. i actually like the greek traditions and foodfor easter the best, but most of the greek people i knew aren't even alive anymore. wow!
for palm sunday they had a singer at the church. her voice was incredible. you could hear her down the street (for real). wow! people who aren't from the church were showing up saying, is this how you get into the church kind of thing. so she draws a crowd.
its soooo casual nowadays. if you have a sundress over your bathingsuit and flip flops its okay. if you have shorts and a t-shirt, its okay. its better to look a little better (golf clothes will get you in EVERYWHERE) but the priest encourages everyone to join in. open to all, that means ALL. excellent attitude. love it. this church has things like outdoor church and bonfire vigils the night before a holiday, they are creative enough that they remain extremely active.
their latest is a meatball contest for the kids, which means they hire 100 "judges" and CHARGE the judge 5 or 10 dollars to be a judge. it funds the contest. then the winner of the meatball contest (a child)and a drawing for a judge get to win a prize like a casino sightseeing cruise. allll the children who participate also get a trophy. no one is left out. its the trying and participating that is the whole thing. they are ingenious at this church. whoever is in charge of their money and marketing does a great job.
i discovered today the shop WITHIN the church by the lobby area. finally "found it" by accident and probably will forget i found it because its so tiny.i do that.

I love the meatball idea thing for the kids. And paying to be a judge! I\'d do it! I LOVE meatballs. Thing is, I don\'t have a big enough appetite to eat very many.....wish I could though!!!
It is amazing how what you wear to church has changed. I\'m a preacher\'s kid, so I\'m kind of old school. I draw the line at drum sets and swinging hips at a Sunday morning service. God is still God and some respect is in order. I also don\'t like girls wearing short shorts and flip flops in the sanctuary during the service. Jeepers! It\'s just about respect, that\'s all. One day a week, put on something that you wouldn\'t wear to the beach and look nice! Set a good example for our kids.
I swear, I think that once they let the school dress code down, and let the kids start wearing jeans and sandals to school, the whole system started going downhill. And has continued to do so. A lot of who we are, and how we feel about ourselves and the world around us, is wrapped up in how we present ourselves!
Sorry, didn\'t mean to preach. I go to church as often as I can. I look as nice as I can, and so does the rest of my family. That\'s how I was raised.....that\'s how I raised my child. That\'s how it\'s gonna stay! oxo
It is soooo amazing how things have changed with the dress code at church and school. I for one would NEVER wear anything like that for church.
I know that recently some preacher\'s are saying come as you are.....just come. It doesn\'t matter what you wear. But I so beg to differ. I think we have to show respect in the house of God.
But of course, to each his own.
Loved the idea of the meatball contest for the kids.
Wishing you a great week!

in south florida a person could go to the mall in a bikini and flip flops and not worry at all. around here, if a person did that, they would get attacked. however, around here flipflops are permitted everywhere, and crocs have replaced flip flops for many people, men included.
i always felt shorts were okay. the sundress alone would be okay, with a bathing suit underneath, if you can\'t see what that is, does it matter.
