to me, this still looks "normal" and still looks like home. i wish it wasn't so crowded down there. its so unfair. lol.
i used to live on the "edge" of north miami beach. nowadays, all of that is incorporated and aventura is a city, so that is the next city over. golden beach is still there and next to that surfside. we lived in the broward county end (unfortunately broward county is EXTREMELY corrupt and worse now) but back then it was PRISTINE in appearance. its still nice. was last there in 2005, but its crowded and there is a metro rail there and every inch of green is now a hi rise. and the restrictions of ten stories in our town, no longer exists....i can go on and on with that.
i had friends in broward suburbs and if they visited they were like whoa, because the further north you went in broward county back then, the more "suburban" it was. more like sprawling areas of houses instead of the glass ten story hi rises where i lived. they always acted kind of scared and my friends from hollywood used to crack up that they were so cautious around a city. then they would nod and say, yeah, this looks like you.
others that i knew lived in dade county, some very inner city and some suburban houses...but they all had the slick city thing going on and would crack up if the broward ilk showed up. amazing, so much of a difference just one county away. if you went up to palm beach county or further south passed cutler ridge, it got very sparce and suburban again back then and by the keys was paradise. just blue water and green. nowadays that is totally ruined as well. though the weather is still the top down there. reallllly miss the ten months of summer thing and wish we had that here. we don't.

YAY, Miami!!!!!
I was a Broward Country girl! I lived in Hollywood. It was beautiful back in the seventies. The crowds were just beginning to fill Miami! I have an Uncle in Cutler Ridge, and I worked at Baptist hospital in Dade County, so I was all over the place down there. My favorite place to be was Ocala. Had friends there with a gorgeous farm. It was still green grass, and no car pollution and crowds of people. Miami has changed. Wouldn\'t want to live there now. Same with Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood. Going back to look at it now would just depress me, I know it! I choose to remember it the way it was! TOTAL overpopulation going on down there now! ox
ocala is still farmish. and mt. dora which is near there, is supposed to be the nicest town to retire in, in usa. pensacola 2014, looks like fort lauderdale looked in 1980, but give it twenty years and if they begin allowing hi rise buildings, it will change quickly. what a shame.
I live in Miami and most of the people are nice... I wave and smile at everyone on my walks and they mostly wave back. I live right next to the turnpike and on one side it\'s apartments and such, and on the other side it\'s ghetto. I walk away from the turnpike when I walk.
yeah, south florida was always SUPER friendly. i think because of the ten months of summer and the super bright sunshine makes it easier to see as well. i think humans need more than the ten minutes of sunshine they claim we must have daily, or we\'ll get depression. i think we all need a few HOURS of sunshine, like they have in south florida and places like arizona and california. there seems to be a real difference with amount of sunshine and happiness.
