if i don't start journalling for real again, i'm going to forget how to write.
i have another journal in real life, that i lost, now i found it under an end table when i was cleaning, and bought another in between. but the knack for writing is gone right now.
we had two days of FREEZE 29 one night and 35 the next night. AWFUL. i had the electric blanket on, which i'm sure is bad in some way, and a wool blanket and two down comforters. and wearing a cashmere turtleneck to sleep. lol. i'm ridiculous. time to start looking for houses in the keys or the bahamas. lol.
i've just started reading "the history of civilization - our oriental heritage by will durant. its my favorite book on modern history and i never finish it. it goes back 4000 years, so not quite the level of anthropology or women and religion by ferguson which goes back 10,000 years and is much shorter because she stops that book as soon as humans become civilized in a modern way (which actually makes humans become sadistic and greedy). durant's book goes all the way through to 1900's - its in volumes. this is volume one, so its most modern country will be egypt by the end of the book, with no mention of europe yet (as europe doesn't exist, its woods, just like usa is woods). its the history we are supposed to know from ordinary schooling and college (laughable, because in some schools in usa there is an option of taking american history (200 years) and not taking the world history stuff at all (even though there is a huge difference between 10,000 years and 200 years. hmmmm. could they be more full of themselves? hmmm sure. so the earth was created and then there was the united states? or, the earth was created/came to be and then there were microbes from somewhere (they don't know where yet) which created life, and then dinosaurs. cavemen evolved and its been discovered had a diet that is identical to apes.... and then usa. wtf? so nothing in between. just cavemen and then usa. shur. even the second scenario is way off... this planet has four hemispheres and each hemisphere has its own history. some schools have you study the history of two hemispheres and a study abroad as well, other schools make no demand at all, and they get away with that and are still approved schools ... i think george carlin is right, in usa they keep people ignorant, to keep most of the population as laborers questioning nothing. need to find the meme on that.
anyway durant writes beautifully and states that going from being cannibals to creating slaves out of the people they vanquished in battle, as free laborers was a huge turning point in evolution/civilization. before this, meat was meat, a cow and an enemy human were viewed as the same - food. the first thing done with an enemy was to kill it and eat it. omg! he also states that humans are solitary creatures, not naturally sociable, at heart we are all solitary. humans only live in groups or pairs because living solitary leaves a person vulnerable to predators. he claims we went from attempts at living solo, to small clans and from there evolved into tribes, but there were no true "chiefs" everything was communal. there is only a chief if there is a war or natural disaster.
his book is good.
had dinner at k's, got there early for a change because i brought animals in to be fixed and while there, discovered one with mange that would be killed the next day and a woman crying as she brought in her rabbit because she couldn't find a rabbit sitter. didn't know there was a market for that. that is her story anyway. so i'm babysitting her rabbit right now -- her daughter is a student at plattsburg suny, and the mange animal is in solitary and being treated with ivermectin. it was so cold out that even the outdoor cats, one was in and the other two were in the utility room, quite happily (amazing feat). also spotted the other one that got out, it scooted through the yard so i guess its not quite lost. amazing that it didn't try to come in during the freeze. the water bowls had ice on them. that is a big deal here.
k made a bunch of eggnog full of extra bourban and rum. i also found some collars and a nail clipper and flea comb at their shop. picked up extra food as well (opened bags). walmart let me know they dropped off a truck load of open bags at the pound, so i figured the pound would be overloaded. they don't always sell it. had veggies and soy burger at k's, and christmas chocolates and drinks. coffee with baileys etc. we are overloaded with that kind of stuff at work as well. also went out to lunch with j, because i had to go to the hospital for the accident. shocked this accident is becoming a big deal. i have bruising and degeneration and have to go to an orthopedist. i don't have bone cancer in the parts that they x-rayed. good to know.

GREAT to know you don\'t have bone cancer!!
The book sounds really interesting. I love history. Don\'t know why exactly. Except that I know I\'m reading the truth! Does that sound crazy? I really enjoyed learning history in school. I did well in the subject because I love to read. Well, I did when I COULD read. But that book sounds interesting. The parts about us needing to be solitary. I think our souls need company. The \"no man is an island thing\". But surely, many ways of developing a civilization were tried before we all just \"learned how to git along\"!!!
Ha! Joke with Obama is funny!
My goodness....do you not have a heater in your house??? That\'s alot of cover and sleep wear. But if you are comfy that\'s great.
The book sounds really interesting. I don\'t know why some people refuse to believe how old this earth really is. I was raised Catholic but as I got older all signs pointed to evolution. It doesn\'t mean that God didn\'t create this, I just think that some people have a different time line. :-) Sounds like a very interesting book.
I have a friend who has a rabbit and she refused to go into the house the night we had a freeze. She couldn\'t figure out why but they finally had to pick her up and bring her in. I guess she just liked being cold. :-)
It is wonderful to know you don\'t have bone cancer.
Hope you can stay warm!
Hugs.
all christian/jewish only go back 3500 years as that is when the old testament begins - its a \"young\" history book compared to other religions, but the bible IS considered to be a history book and factual. its written middle eastern/\"oriental\" style, which means NOTHING in there is meant to be taken literally. In the eastern hemisphere or orient or \"middle east\" when you write anything you are supposed to attempt to draw a picture in the reader\'s mind. that something took a long time or something was very large...they say giant, or they say hundreds of years...in real life people do that as well, doesn\'t mean, it really is a hundred or a zillion years, just means its a long time....the persian bibles are 5000 b.c. and the women and religion stuff is 10,000 b.c. what is interesting with genesis is most of what is in there is basically stories about women based societies along the nile BEFORE jewish/christian bible was written. its identical. a LOT of the stories are told in multiple religions even though there was no worldwide communication back then. the stories of the great flood are told in every religion world wide, with different ways of dealing with the flood and who survived. when you take historical geology, the flood is brought up there as well and is a fact, but they don\'t have any stories on how anyone or anything survived, just that it definitely happened.
yeah, i have heat, but with the way windows are here, at best it gets to 68 when its super cold out. i thought it was just old houses like that, but the newer homes in the area are just as bad unless you put the heat all the way up and that drives everyone else crazy. if no one is around at the house up north i put the heat at 83, then i\'m comfortable. lol.
