had a ton of trouble getting this to post. went onto the post who dated whom, gosh do they tear his current wife to shreds. him too actually.
had a long day. c was by. went to timeshare. went to sauna. went to sale at a different church. got a ton of books, church calendar (church calendars are a fave of mine, any church, i like looking at all the little known holidays and the prayers that go with them. if we celebrated all the holidays that exist through churches we would hardly ever have a 4 or 5 day work week! wouldn't that be nice), looked for greeting cards, i always forget that they sell them there for ten cents, but didn't find what i needed. AND I FOUND A RED HAT!! for the red hat society, its 100 percent wool, flat kind of hat with a rim and red feathers on it. i love it. it was just sitting there. yay! that will be next. mr called and its her b-day and she celebrates those, i forgot. the post office is still open over here on saturday, i thought saturday mail delivery was ended?
went to arby's with j for lunch. had their mint shake and its fabulous, made with andes mints. headed up north to stop at the marina. technically, i don't have to be up north each weekend anymore. lol. odd feeling. the beach is MOBBED. weather turned great today, in the 80's. warmer in the sun. yay!
went to dollar general because they give you a $5 coupon to use on everything in the store, each time you go there good for the following saturday only. its on the receipt after you pay. yay! great idea. its like getting 20 percent off permanently. pet supermarket does the same thing if you join their club, they send it to you on the 12th of the month and some places take all coupons so that one works out well too. picked up country kinz, i guess this is doll week. lol. then nothing until next year probably after i find a deal on doll clothes. also picked up xtra detergent with fabric softner it works great and is only $5 for 150 ounces. sun used to sell something similar but its hard to find lately. i hate when good products disappear. no more yodels cakes as well, its a huge adjustment too.
am meeting a at the house to make cookies next and i found an apple creation and borscht in a russian storybook - the guy has the coolest job, he photographs areas where he lives for a few months and then writes children's level literature about the photos, what they do, how they live and then local recipes. so smart and the books sell, they're educational. loved it. i want k to make borscht (which is cabbage soup with beets as well) instead of ordinary cabbage soup or boiled cabbage (i love boiled cabbage). i'm not irish and don't celebrate st. pat at all, but i like all the green stuff and the sales on cabbage. lol. was also reading up on genetic diseases that amish people get from inbreeding themselves for such a long time (all amish people are descendants of a few hundred swiss (german-speaking side) who came over here 300 years ago. the inbreeding turns some of them into imbeciles from genetic disorders).
"This condition has an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern, which means the defective gene is located on an autosome, and two copies of the gene - one from each parent - must be inherited to be affected by the disorder. The parents of a child with an autosomal recessive disorder are carriers of one copy of the defective gene, but are usually not affected by the disorder.
for so many years, the Amish have had no names for these disorders. It was simply a mystery why half the headstones in Amish cemeteries were headstones of children. The genetic problems come down to something called the "founder effect" because the nearly 150,000 Amish in America can trace their roots back to a few hundred German-Swiss settlers who brought the Amish and Mennonite faiths to the United States in the 18th century.
Over generations of intermarriage, rare genetic flaws have shown up, flaws which most of us carry within our genetic makeup but which don't show up unless we marry someone else with the same rare genetic markers."
its very sad. they really need to expand their gene pool before they do themselves in.

Amish movement was founded in Europe by Jacob Amman (~1644 to ~1720 CE), from whom their name is derived. In many ways, it started as a reform group within the Mennonite movement -- an attempt to restore some of the early practices of the Mennonites.\" Mennonites are the (women) who wear Amish looking dresses and head coverings, but they are colorful and they are not fundamentalists as far as using electricity or cars. So the Amish could be called Fundamentalists compared to the Mennonites from whom they came.
\"The Amish who split from Mennonites generally lived in Switzerland and in the southern Rhine river region. During the late 17th century, they separated because of what they perceived as a lack of discipline among the Mennonites.\" http://www.religioustolerance.org/amish.
So where did the Mennonites come from? \"the Mennonites took their name from Menno Simons, a Dutch priest who converted to the Anabaptist faith and helped lead it to prominence in Holland by the mid-16th century. Modern day Mennonites number almost 1 million worldwide.\"

Is that Eric Clapton in the photo? Your journals are always interesting.
I never thought about that with the Amish community but I guess it does make sense.
Have you ever taken the survey from the Dollar General? They remind me to do it everytime I get a receipt that you could win $1,000 and they have 3 winner\'s a month. It\'s not happened for me. :-((((
So glad you found a great red hat!
I had to laugh about the detergent with fabric softener. My hubby bought some once and I didn\'t notice.....nor did he. I thought it was plain fabric softener and I kept wondering why the rinse was still soapy. I finally put on my glasses and realised why. DUH!! It was detergent WITH fabric softener. I really should wear my glasses more often. I had to re-wash all the clothes because we were drying off with towels that still had soap on them.
Sounds like you had a very productive day. I love hearing about your outings and your great finds.
xoxoxo
thanks carly, i\'m going to take the survey NOW if its still okay to, i know its a time period thing. i always take the survey at arby\'s. you get a free apple turnover right there if you take it, so there is desert. yay! arby\'s is a fave. when we took the kids there at best they got to split the bigger sandwich, that stuff gets as pricey as a real restaurant, but if you stick with the value menu, its as cheap as wendy\'s and probably as wholesome, i hope so. should look that up.
ladybug, that is eric clapton. i have one like that of keith richards, but its on my other avatar and not accessible until they fix all the broken pieces of ds.
