-phobia vs -philia

My extreme reaction to light has been called, "photophobia." My botany/biology training argues that photophobes do not like much of any kind of light. Eg., mushrooms and earthworms.
I LOVE light. I can't live without my sunlight. Even when it glares me into retreat to air conditioned comfort or dims to itchy grey during a thunderstorm, I love it just the same. I miss every one of nature's night lights that are currently washed away by security lights. The gentle strobing of fireflies. The pulsing points of light we used to call stars. The phosphorescent sheen of night is more subtle than sunlight, but it is filled with lights and I miss every one of them in the bright nights of the light age. If I didn't know what a firefly looks like in the sunlight, I might think they were extinct.
