Phlizon Newest 1000W vs ECO Farm 120W LM301B Quantum Board Review
When growing plants indoors, replicating the effect of sunlight is often the biggest hurdle. Sodium, fluorescent, and HID lamps emit too much heat, and are very power hungry.
Modern LEDs are superior in these two aspects. Check out our review list and the buying guide to learn how the best LED grow lights can improve your hydroponics/aquaponics system.
ADVANTAGES OF LEDS
Color: LED lighting will emit a specified color of light with no need for filters, and that means less to buy at start-up.
Slow failure: LEDs fail by dimmer over time versus the immediate failure of other lighting solutions.
Efficiency: LED lights produce more lumens per watt than incandescent lighting. LED efficiency isn't affected by the shape or size the way it is with florescent lights or tubes.
Warmup: LEDs warm up quickly, full brightness in about a microsecond.
Cycling: LEDs are perfect for applications requiring frequent on-off cycling and won't fail as quickly as other lighting types subjected to cycling.
Cool light: LEDs radiate little heat compared to other horticultural lighting types.
Dimming: LEDs can be dimmed by lowering the forward current or pulse width modulation.
Lifetime: Generally, LEDs have a long, useful life. They require less maintenance too.
Shock resistance: LEDs are solid-state components and durable. They aren't as fragile as other lighting types.
What are the factors to consider while shopping for LED grow lights?
There are three major factors you have to consider before picking an LED system for your indoor grow operation:
1. What are you growing?
Depending on their species and variety, plants have varying light requirements. Generally, full-spectrum light is essential for photosynthesis.
But even for this purpose, blue and red lights seem to be most important.
And plants from dry, sunny areas like the Mediterranean will need more intense light than those originating from sub-tropical or temperate regions.
Low-light plants like lettuce and herbs will need 25 watts per square feet, while high light plants like tomatoes will need at least 50 watts.
These are just ball-park figures. Different varieties will have their unique requirements.
2. How large is your indoor grow project?
This pretty much self-explanatory. The larger your grow area, the more LED bulbs or panels you will require.
There are a lot of options to choose from. Depending on the shape and size of your grow area, you can pick from LED tubes, panels, bars, bulbs,
3. What type of LEDs do you need?
There are two options: full spectrum lights, and separate vegging and blooming lights.
Full spectrum lights are all-around products that can provide adequate lighting for a plant throughout its life cycles.
But in some situations, you might be opting for a more focused approach. For example, your system may be having separate growing areas for the growing period and flowering periods.
In such conditions, you can opt for a vegging LED light for the growth stage, and blooming LEDs for the flowering stage.
Many good quality full spectrum lights these days come with programmable settings. With these, you can opt for veg or blooming light settings depending on the age of your plant

It runs at a lower temperature and can bring higher energy conversion and longer life. This grow light is a full-cycle lighting solution for all growing environments including wet situation and is ideal for greenhouse supplemental lighting or indoor sole-source lighting.
- DIMMABLE FULL SPECTRUM DESIGN- The intensity of light can be adjusted according to the needs of the plants. The leds are all Samsung LM301B leds, It contains 144pcs 3000K leds , 96pcs 6000K leds, 48pcs 660nm red leds. Moreover , we have added additional 660nm leds beads which is the most important for plants growth.
- EXTRA TWO UNIQUE FUNCTIONS- No fans no noise and waterproof function. Lots of heat sinks and hollow body ensures maximum heat dissipation. No additional fan zero noise. Otherwise, the plant grow light uses advanced waterproof power supply which is installed outside of the light and it is easy to be replaced. The light board adopts sealing technology, so whole plant grow light can reach IP65 water resistant level. No need to worry about the humid planting environment to damage the plants light
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY- Actual power is 100watt with 288pcs Samsung SMD LM301B leds, light efficacy is up to 2.7umol/W, light output PPFD value is 815 umol/m² hanging at 18", SMD grow light is designed to replace tranditional HPS , lower temperature , more scientifically and energy-efficient. making you get 30% higher yield than HPS. What exactly is full spectrum LED grow light and why is it important?
First, you must understand the light spectrum, or color wavelengths. It is the range of light colors we see or didn't see. Visible light that our eyes can see is between 380-740 nanometers. And similarly, the leaves of plants also enjoy these visible wavelength; the chlorophyll uses these light to manufacture food. The green light is an exception. Because chlorophyll only reflects green and they don't absorb it, that explains why plants' leaves are green.
So for the most parts, plants respond to the blue and red colors very well. These are the two most important wavelengths that plants need during their growth. Basically, plants need blue light for their vegetative phase and red light for the flowering period.
Understanding that, many grow light manufacturers have made it possible to produce the light colors plants need with their LEDs light. Many modern LED grow lights have a programmable setting to produce different color wavelengths. By this, you can control the type of lights at the different ratios for plants at different stages of growth in their life.
These types of LED lights with a very wide or full range of color wavelengths are called full-spectrum LED grow lights.
So two of the most important criteria that affect plant growth are light intensity (or the power of light output), and light colors (color wavelengths).
For light intensity, you can opt for the powerful light, but for light colors, you should choose one with a wide range of color wavelength (or full spectrum).
That's why within the scope of this article, I'll go into details all full-spectrum LED grow lights on the market, and help you pick the right one.
How Far Should LED Lights Be From Plants?
LED grow lights do not pose the same risk of burning plants as HID bulbs, but their light is extremely intense and can bleach the tips of your plants. It is best to mount them on easily adjustable lines so that you can raise them as your plants grow taller.
You may be surprised to learn that LED grow lights must be hung even farther away from the canopy than HID lights. Because LED grow lights offer such a powerful light spectrum, it can be too intense and overwhelming to the plants and it can cause them to look bleached. This will, of course, affect your yield and quality of your buds.
- Small lights under 200W should be hung at least 15” above your plants, and around 20” for seedlings.
- Medium-sized lights under 800W should be hung between 20” to 26” above, and
- Large lights over 800W should be hung between 26” and 45” above your plants.
The best way to know exactly how high to mount your LED lights is to check the manufacturer’s recommendation. They should list a height for both vegetative and flowering growth, because flowering plants require a bit more intensity.
Final thoughts
Professional cannabis growers agree that makers of LED lights are moving forward aggressively in terms of efficiency.
So the brand making the best and most efficient version is always up to debate. (And growers do engage in heated debates on this very topic.)
