Perpetrator Protection

Did anyone else have a parent protect the perpetrator when confronted with the childhood abuse in the family? Is this a common reaction?

Sadly it\'s very common and just adds salt to the wound. Huge betrayal and sends a horrible message to child..I\'m sorry you\'re forced to live with this also evil behavior. Just means the whole family is as sick as perp. YOU didn\'t cause any of it...you just told the truth. That family had secret code it\'s not okay to talk about...

Well, you already saw my post on one of the boards, but when I very first disclosed the abuse to both parents (separately) and about 7 or 8 years after never saying a word about the abuse, my parents didn\'t do anything. My dad said \"if you wanna do something you can\" and mom didn\'t really say much and I felt guilty talking to them about it anymore, so it was never talked about with them again, nor did they ever do anything. I\'ve had to be my own advocate in tm healing process, but in a way, it\'s rewarding, because that in itself has given me strength and courage in standing up for myself.
