Perimenopause

Hi to you all!! I am Apey.  I am writing to see if there is anyone else out there that may be going through this. I am married no children except 4 legged ones. I am going to be 48 on Monday April 28th.My life did a total turn around about 6 weeks ago. I have not felt the same since then. I have a hard time functioning. Loss of appetite, hard time sleeping, anxiety is off the chain, crying a lot, depressed, foggy brain and just not being me. I have not been to work this past 2 weeks and I do not know when I will be able to go back. Started therapy and was told most likely all coming from perimenopause. I  am reading books trying to take hold of the situation. Every day and every minute is like a fight for trying to feel normal and not  losing your mind.I never thought I would be feeling like this. I even had to cancel my trip to Boston for my nephew's graduation because I feel so terrible. I feel awful letting my family down as well as myself. I just want to feel normal again!!

THE MAIN THING IS THAT YOUR GOING TO BE OK. ALSO YOU ARE NOT ALONE WITH THESE FUNKY FEELINGS. ITS JUST OUR LADIES LUCK!!! I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD FEEL SO BAD EITHER, BUT DON\'T LET THIS STOP YOU FROM DOING THE THINGS YOU LIKE TO DO. THIS SHALL PASS. I\'M HOPEING YOU CAN FIND SOME PEACE OF MIND, IN KNOWING THAT OTHERS UNDERSTAND HOW YOU FEEL. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi and welcome to DS. Being 57 going on 58 I have been where you are--had one heck of a fight with it-- and now am over it. My recent battle has been with panic attacks, anxiety but I battled through that also and won. There are a lot of things you can do to win this battle. Some will work for you and others won\'t. It\'s a trial and error. There are medications you can take. I perferred not to take them. I did natural supplements and nutrition with change of diet that for the most part were very, very helpful. Then there is others like learning how to do deep breathing properly, thinking positive thoughts, exercise, meditation, relaxation music and stretches, distraction methods and others. If you would like some more information on any of these just message me and I\'ll be more than happy to talk to you about them. Hugs and remember you are never alone here, There are always some friends to talk to that listen and are very supporative and helpful. We all have had our troubles.

Hello and welcome. I received your message and will be happy to share some information with you that I know will help. I am 49 and have been perimenopausal for awhile now. I agree with \"Stitch\" (above), my gyno offered me hormone replacement therapy and tranquilizers which I refused and have done alot of research on-line and book stores and have found that with the proper diet, exercise, and rest in conjunction with relaxation, breathing excersises, imagery and meditation you will feel better. Hang in there, always here to Chat or feel free to message me anytime.
Stay Positive! Big Hugs, Maryann

I have been seeing a naturopath, an ND, for any impacts that chronic stress from anxiety has had on my body. Her specialty is menopause, so we are talking about peri-menopause. She has written a book called Menopause with Science and Soul, by Judith Boice. To answer your question about peaking in crisis, yes, it happened to me a year ago. Things slowly got better and never went back to that point. I was fortuntate to have a great doc, who gave me lots of time to talk. In my case, a career change was in order. Your situation may be entirely hormonal. Reaching out was the best medicine for me. I had to get over embarassment about what I was experiencing. Now, I just think it\'s part of life and many people experience it. You will feel better...just one day at a time for now. Best wishes and Happy Birthday!
