Past Relationships, romantic and familial
Well.... what can I say? I've only had 3 "serious" relationships, one of those being my wife, all have been with a female. Marriage excluded [only been married once], my other relationships have ended --- poorly. The one previous to meeting my wife, we were not compatible, yet we were together almost 4 years. We met at a restaurant I used to work at. She would come in and ask if she could get some "weird" sandwich, not on the menu. I was the one who cooked it and brought it out to her table. After several visits, she invited me to a party, where she got me drunk and took advantage of me. Our time was spent either "feeding" each others addiction (enabling), feeding our selves (literally) I gained 85 pounds, or argueing. She (was) is a staunch vegetarian, I love meat. Our political views were vastly different, religion is always a touchy subject for people it seems.
She left me on "Independance Day" July 4th, many years ago, we had made plans to do something, when she showed up at my apartment, instead of leaving for our plans, she left me. We were engaged at the time so it was a shock, to say the least. I guess I was a little co-dependant at the time (Her words).
The one before her, she cheated on me, several times. Kinda blatantly, now that I look back. I was working 40+ hours a week putting myself through art school also full time 20+ hours a week. To say I was hardly home would be an understatement. Between the two I didn't have any days off. We were living together right out of High School. We had been dating for about 2 - 2 1/2 years when she left. Moved in with a mutual friend, they had seperate bedrooms but, were always "touchy-feely".
Her cheating on me was definitely painful, I cared deeply for her. I was raised not to do something to someone that I would not like done to me. (reverse golden?) Basically "Do unto others...."
We also seemed to fight alot. Hmmm.
On to family.
When I was a wee lad, about 4-6. My best friend in the whole world AKA my Grandpa (Paternal) would take me fishing, and to the lumber mill (I couldn't get out of the truck tho) to watch them work and pick up material, he would let me dunk my cookies in his coffee. We were almost inseperable, when I was 6 he died of a "massive heart attack" he was only 63. I was lost for a while, I didn't understand why I couldn't see "Papa". My parents didn't take us (my little brother and I) to the funeral, I never really learned how to deal with loss/death.
Hunting and fishing was for sustenance, this was different.
When I was arround 9-10 my younger cousin, who we were close to, drown in a bank fishing accident, he slipped on some ice and the current took him. He was only 6, himself. My parents did take us to his funeral. Volunteers recovered his body, it took just over a week to find. It was kind of surreal, some people were crying, some were laughing and joking (I think to hide feelings), others were just somber. I remember my Aunt and Uncle being in shock over the whole thing. (understandably)
There were other deaths in the family, but I was close to these two.
Arround the time I was 14, My parents moved us from the northern mid-west to the very hot and dry south-west. Culture shock. I had to change schools 4 times in 5 years. Friends? What Friends? Eventually when the "dust settled" My freshman year of High School, I did start to make good friends. One of them being my "love" interest in my college years.
The majority of my family (extended) still lives in the northern mid-west. Being torn away from friends and family was definitely not easy. Kinda leaves a hole. When you have to do what your parents say because your not old enough to make that kind of decision. Ugh.
No wonder I have so many issues!
