Passing of a Friend

I was awakened this morning to a phone call from a friend of mine's sister.  Her brother had just died and she was at the ER with her sister-in-law.  I rushed to the hospital to be with them and in a few minutes, the family started coming in to the ER.
Darrell had just turned 49, 2 weeks ago.  He had been fighting lung cancer for almost 3 years.  He was first given 3 months and Doctors were amazed he was still alive.  He never gave up, was still working for a farmer.  H e got up this morning, fixed his lunch, coughed a few times and said he was having trouble breathing.  He took a breathing treatment and it didn't help so, his wife called the ambulance.  They took him to the ER and he died.  His heart just stopped and they couldn't revive him.  He had been on Chemo for 3 years and his last report about a month ago showed the cancer had mastisized so, he knew his time was short.  At least he didn't lay for months and suffer with tubes and hoses everywhere, gasping for every breath.  He did doing what he loved to do up until 2 hours before his death.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend though it sounds like he was quite a man as he outlived his diagnosis and did it while doing what he liked to do best. May you find comfort in knowing he is at peace now. Truly your friend, Barb

cancer is a horrible thing. to be given 3 months and make it 3 years is amazing. at least he didn\'t throw in the towel in the beginning.
