Parts of My Life ...

Again, a message to a Friend of mine... with similar events of life's more difficult times.
It is amazing to me how our lives, in certain instances, parallel. I went full-time to college for almost 10 years in the nineties. Got my dream job as a counselor to teen moms, working towards being an administrator and was in a MVA (major vehicle accident). I was unable to continue working, at which time, my ex left me!(Sound familiar?)
I had a major melt-down right after that and became clinically depressed. I went through the various phases diagnosed that usually follows such as bipolar depression, anxiety, paranoia, agoraphobia, grandiose, obsessive compulsive disorders, and schizoid affected disorder with hallucinations. And, add to that - suicidal.
I lost my love of my life who left, my dream job I had trained for & given up my life for almost ten years, and my own credit standing having just established after a prior failed marriage in which I had foolishly left and lost custody of my five children - all within 3 months!
In the midst of it all, I left the state and became homeless in Las Vegas and miraculously escaped the long-arm of the law. One place you truly don't want to go to court in as a vagrant! They are only too happy to accommodate you with a cell and three squares of powdered eggs and what-have-you! (That's a whole 'nother story I'll tell at a some other time!)
I have worked my way through all of that in the last twelve years. I am, however, not perfect. I still have my foibles and occasional flare-ups. But, who wouldn't after all of that? But, It also has its advantages, as I am able to help other people who have similar situations. It also helps me to understand others with the same ideations of thoughts. Because I have endured those same frustrations I can at least have empathy towards them.
I should mention here, that when I was in college working towards my bachelors I was, fortunately for me, doubling in majors. I was taking psychology and journalism & communications. However, when I couldn't pass the DSMR Diagnostics Exam because of my own problem with test-anxiety and lack of experience in the field, I took the advice (again foolishly) of my college advisor and dropped to the single major of j & c.
I had wanted to be a therapist who wrote journals! I also accomplished minors in English and, of course with nearly a major, Psychology. I then (again foolishly) took a masters in management of non profit organizations. I wish I had listened to the chair of the business department of the college who practically begged me to take a masters in business management as I had excelled in the fields of marketing and advertising.
I was in the MVA because it had happened on the way to take clients (teenage moms) to the grocery store to trade in their WIIC checks for food for their children. Something that never would had happened had I been a business masters major! I may have been off somewhere having fun developing a vision with a marketing project or in an advertising campaign some place instead.
In life , we all make foolish decisions.. I have had more than my fair share of them. But, if nothing, else, it has made me a better counselor and a stronger person!
Now don't be surprised if you see this in a page in my journal as I am going to place it there. I never journal but I do enter records of my replies and messages because I hate to journal !
