........Part 2

Words fail me.  Rosie and me had our first heated quarrel.  As hard as I tried to explain my reasons for needing to move into an assisted living retirement home, the more she balked at the idea.  ".... but MOM, I'll take care of you!  If I'm not doing enough to help and care for you just say so and I'll bend backwards to please you!"

The truth of the matter is that she doesn't understand the insidious beast of this disease that will destroy all of us unless I step aside to let them get on with their lives.  That should be the focus of their attention, not me and my baggage.  And as time wears on, the baggage will demand more and more attention. until Rosie's promises and good intensions turn to resentment.  Ask me, I know from first hand experience when Den's 87yr old grandmother came to stay .... but that's another story.

Anyway, Rosie came with me to view a pretty good home in an up-market area of the city and I could see in her eyes that perhaps I was making sense.  She won't admit it, though, and is still chilly towards me. Trouble is, there's a hefty waiting list so there's no knowing when I'll be accepted.  I've already put in my application, so it's just the waiting that's gnawing in the pit of my belly.  In the mean time I have to work at mending the gaping hole in our relationship.  Perhaps the gaping hole is in my foot and my foot is in my mouth....again!

As much as I love my granny flat, I love Rosie and her family more.  If only she realised it ..............
