parenthood
Hard to believe I'm a mom....I don't know if I quite feel like a mom yet.
Sorry I haven't written in a while. Writing on my phone is hard and I don't make it to the computer very often. I've tried to put up photos a couple of times, but our new camera makes the photos larger than this site will accept, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make them smaller.
Grace is doing well, I think. She's breastfeeding pretty well. The only issue is that she will only consistently latch with a nipple shield, so I use them in every feeding. I'm hoping as she gets older, she'll be able to latch with out it. She went from 6 pounds 9 oz birthweight to 8 lb 1 oz at her 2 w appt, so she's obviouisly getting enough to eat :-)
She sleeps most of the day and then is awake at night. I'm struggling with this a bit. I'm not really a good napper....and her not sleeping at night is making me very tired.
Her health is good except on my 36w u/s they noticed a slightly elevated fluid level on one of her kidneis. THey repeated the u/s on her after she was born and it showed the same thing. So, now the pediatrician wants us to see a urologist. I tried to make an appt with one but then they called back and said they wanted me to get a VCUG on her at 4w and then come in and see them. I had researched this a little and this fluid thing is the number one most diagnosed defect detected on u/s and most kids grow out of it. the VCUG is an invasive test where they'd tie her down and fill her bladder with dye in a catheter and then watch it drain on xray to make sure the urine isn't refluxing. I told them I wasnt interested in getting the test and would rather wait and see if she would grow out of it. So, when I went back to our ped, she's still insistent that I see the urologist. Why are we so quick to test???? We wouldn't of even known she had this except I got that stupid u/s. I don't want to look like a bad parent, but why put her thru an invasive test when she's not showing any adverse effects?

You\'re the momma, and you know what\'s best. Sounds like baby Grace is doing quite well. Hopefully you can get the photo thing figured out so we can see her growing little self! I bet she is just precious!
Being a mommy is pretty amazing!!! She\'ll get her days and nights turned around eventually - soon hopefully. It is hard to go on with only a couple hours of sleep at a time, but this too will pass. God bless you and Grace.
