Panic Attack at Work

Last friday counseling went well.  My counselor taught me a form of questioning with REBT.  It is called chaining, and we got to the root of some of my isses on control too.  At the end, my computer lost connection, so she sent it to me, and I am trying to find a day to reschedule due to my birthday being this friday. At work today, I had a panic attack during a thunderstorm when the lights went out at the shelter.  The room I was almost done with cleaning went pitch black.  I froze, and then in the immediate started to panic.  I had a flashback about the rape in October, and I started to freak.  I had to quickly get my phone out to see some light.   I later called up my co-worker after exiting the room in a panic, and asked him where he was at.  He was making sure the alarm system was alright, and thankfully it was.  The lights then came on about 2 minutes later. I then decided to go back to the room, and still panicky, but unable to get the last bed made, so I called my supervisor.  I either had the choice of calling him or a crisis line, so I called him.  Long story, but he can relate.  He helped me to calm down, and we talked for about 22 minutes.  He wants to speak with me tonight to find out how my day went, and how he can help.   Afterwards, I told me co-worker what my panic attacks are like for me, and he was supportive, and can relate as well.  I love my job, and everyone is wonderful in helping me get through this. I did attempt to try to use positive self-talk and distract myself by making the bed, but it didn't work.  I am trying, but I sure hate my NEIGHBOR. I will keep you updated.

Well I know that God gave me this scripture for a reason in church yesterday. So hopefully it will help you.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

The LORD is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)

Are you able to bring a cd player and listen to scripture songs or copy scriptures down on an index card and carry them in your pocket?

Father God, You see my friend and I ask you to heal her from all memories of the rape. I bind the tormenting spirits that torment her mind and her emotions. I speak peace over her to bring comfort, peace and rest to her spirit, mind and emotions. And Father God whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things, Phil 4:8. In Jesus Name I pray

Much love,
Monica

You know, I am so sorry that you went through such a horrible ordeal just last year. It is truly difficult to recover (emotionally) from something like that. I\'m glad you\'re getting counseling, and I pray your counselor is an effective (and saved) person. After having been molested by my uncle, then physically abused by my ex husband, I have some idea of what you\'re going through. It\'s hard to get that out of your head. But, God can do anything. Keep giving it to Him in prayer. I will pray with you on that as well. God has blessed me to learn how to forgive. I had to forgive my uncle and my ex husband, along with a long list of others. What I had to keep in mind was that I also seek forgiveness for my sins. I have hurt some folk in my lifetime and needed forgiveness also. So, it\'s very easy to forgive, when you want forgiveness. Hope that makes sense. I have learned that the power of forgiveness is awesome. It\'s like lifting the weight of the world off your shoulders. God is good. I\'m praying for your recovery. Know that, you WILL recover and you\'re gonna make it.

God bless you. LYM...D
