Out of the Fog

The dense fog enshrouding the lake is pierced byrays of sunshine just emerging for the day.The lonely boathouse on the point, andneighboring piers float like shadows in the mist.I see the silhouette of a heron patiently waiting forhis breakfast in the shallow water near myshoreline.  He makes one quick nosedive into thecold water, and comes up fish-less.As I open the door to retrieve the morningpaper from it's bed of leaves, the noisefrightens "big bird" -- he screeches awayto a more peaceful fishing spot.The sunny rays are gradually revealling more of thebeautiful scene that is unfolding at my back door.Lake Lorman, Madison County, MS --a perfect backdrop for the first day of the rest of my life.
