Out Life: Day 3

Today was pretty routine, which is good. I noticed my parents slept through the night, which is a first since they found out. I was even able to have a conversation with them about our days without the uncomfortable stares and silences. I am hoping they are beginning to realize that I'm not going to explode into a deviant. I'm just the same old ordinary me. I realize though that there is a very long road ahead. Unfortunately I have begun to see that the reason my parents can be so progressive yet so biased against members og the LGBTQ community is because they do not think they are. My mother once again offhandedly used the terms "fairy" and "f*g" (not directed at me mind you, just in a general sense). I pointed this out to her, yet she still didn't see the problem. She cannot see the deeper hurt and ramifications of these words, I'll have to work on it with her. I don't expect her to go marching in the next Pride parade, but at least I'd like it if she understood her own prejudice.
I had my first chance to come out to my brother today. My car is in the shop, so he drove me home from the train station. We were alone and he was in a good mood, so I opened my mouth to tell him... and then he decided to tell me a "f*g" joke he just heard. Needless to say I didn't follow through. All well, tomorrow is another day.
Maybe this calm with my parents is the eye of the storm, maybe it's general progress. Either way we are moving forward. Off to 30 Rock tomorrow.
Thanks,
Steve

it can be easier to put off things for good reasons, but it makes the actual doing all the harder, there\'s never going to a good time to do this. so be careful you dont keep waiting for a perfect day
