Our favorite time of year

Breaking sports news today and I SO miss you now! TO signed with the Bengals (just like I said he would & you didn't think so .. guess I was right again .. lol.) Jake and I have been discussing all the celebration antics Chad & TO could possibly come up with. It was such a lighthearted discussion but so very bittersweet not having you here to join in as always. Football season will be so very lonely without you here but we intend to carry on EVERY tradition you took part in, thereby, making the rest of us take part in .. lol. We'll place the Michigan banner over the mantel for the Wolverines season and then the Red Wings banner next to it when hockey starts -- by the way, Stevie left Detroit to GM Tampa Bay and Holland has been wooing Modano to join his hometown team.
It will be so hard to enjoy our sports without you, but as much as we miss you, we will continue your love of the sport and your teams and we will know EXACTLY what you would have to say during each game. Since the kids aren't as big hockey fans as we were, I told your nephew that I would text him during all 82 games .. just like you and I did on the nights you had to work and miss the game.
Next week marks the 3rd month since you have passed and I still feel like the shock has not left .. I doubt it ever will completely. So many times in a day, something that happens or something newsworthy takes place, my first thought is "wait till I tell Rob" .. then it hits me within a second or two and my stomach sinks and my heart breaks even more. I guess that's why I decided to jump on here and write to you about the breaking sports news. That's the best I can do for now until I join you in Heaven.

We are also HUGE football fans !! Especially college football - truly a house divided as Heath is the consummate Florida Gator Fan and we are Georgia Bulldogs. It\'s always a great rivalry!! Heath and Mark would spend weeks prior to football season discussing everything.........then every weekend was spent watching football.......and of course, the Monday quarterbacking where the games were all rehashed. Boy, will I miss Mark being here for that this year. Heath has already mentionned that football season is going to be so different this year without his Dad to share it with him. Just another one of those things that we will miss so much - and never get used to.
I also can\'t believe that next week with be 3 months. Sometimes it still doesn\'t seem possible...........and yet, we know it\'s real.

We so loved our rivalry too .. Rob is diehard Michigan fan and being so close to Columbus, I was always Ohio State .. HUGE rivalry. Every year, Rob and my brother in law would try and outdo one another .. One year our grass was spray pained in bright red letters .. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES .. Rob couldn\'t get the mower out quick enough lol. Rob went the following year while they were gone and spray painted their house windows (every last one of them lol) in bright blue letters .. GO BLUE and the Michigan \"M\". Jake said the same thing as Heath .. it\'s going to be a tough season without their dads to talk football.
Another Ohio fan is gone from the cheering section this year.......He even named our dog Brutus. Guess I will be watching Lifetime......the games will make me too sad to watch alone.
Chris...you can have TO!!!! We had him in Philly and although he is an amazing specimen, he is a cancer on the team. I bet you will be sick of him in no time.
My husband was into football big time too, our family is BIG TIME ALABAMA Crimson Tide fans........lol......what else??? He wasn\'t into pro football much though, but Bama was a different story. He also loved our high school football team. He always went to the games. That first year, after he passed, was sooooo hard! Our grandson played at our high school, where Joe played also, and our son. In fact, our grandson actually quit in March and refused to go to the banquet -- right after Joe died in Dec. He said Papa Joe wouldn\'t be here to watch. It was his way to grieve, but, he decided to go back and play by the time school was out. We bought a sign with Joe\'s football picture on it and \"Go Big Red\" with his name and the year he played etc. So, my daughter and I told him that Papa Joe was watching over him. (businesses buy signs to advertise, and we bought one for Joe because no one was a bigger fan of our team. Others did the same after we did, for people that loved the game, and had passed on. We got something started...:-)
It was hard to go to the games w/o Joe. I hadn\'t done that since high school!! I still watch the AL games and know just what he would be saying.
Our son is a football coach at a middle school. That first year, we cried together on the phone, many times, because he missed his dad so much. He always talked to his dad about the games -- before, and after they were over, and what he needed to do next. He said he would look up in the stands for his dad, and realize he wasn\'t there, but, I was. He still misses him during football, and sometimes still wants to look in the stands to see if he is there.
We will always miss him and football season makes it even more so.

My sympathies go out to you and Cincinnati for the acquisition of TO. This really ought not to happen to anyone anywhere.
Adding TO to our already \"troubled\" team ought to make the season interesting to say the least. Rob swore that the Bengals wouldn\'t invest in him but I had a feeling that with his buddy Ochocinco, they\'d find a way and sure enough they signed him. Like a said .. interesting season.
