I am happy to have this outlet to journal about not just my parenting struggles that regard my son's bedwetting but any other struggles I encounter as a parent. This does however regard my son's struggle with bedwetting.
Last night my son fell asleep on the couch after my husband and I had already gone to bed. When my husband (my son's stepfather) got up this morning for work he noticed that Ty had an accident. My husband called me downstairs to wake him up. After my husband left for work I woke my son up and he was mortified. I left him be and went to work.
When I got home today, he was in his room and did not even want to come down for dinner and I didn't push the issue. After dinner I knocked on Tyler's door to say good night and he told me I could come in. He brought up how sick he was of bedwetting and that it made him feel worthless and ashamed. He said that he was sick of waking up every day and not only deal with the fact that he wet the bed but also had to wash all of his things. Even though recently he has not been wearing a diaper to bed, he said that he wanted to start buying them again. He said it was really effecting him that he had to start every day on a bad foot and it impacted the rest of his day. I told him I am fine with however he chooses to handle this and I will always be there to listen and support him.
I got the chance to communicate how I do not think of him any differently and he should try not to let himself feel embarrassed because it is nothing he can control. He is handling this on his own but I think he knows i am here if he needs anything. He told me he did not want me to buy his pull-ups for him anymore that he would get them. He wanted to take full responsibility and deal with this on his own.
I could not be prouder of the man he is becoming. I am a blessed momma to have such a funny, kindhearted and giving son. He makes me proud in everything he does and I am amazed at the maturity he has in handling this tough situation.
