Onward VIII

Did Hubby's psychosis break last night? Even from the inside, it can be hard to know when a psychotic episode breaks. To my senses, it is rather like when a physical flu fever breaks. The immediate threat eases, but there remains much healing to be done and there remains much threat of complications. Again I thank the name, rank and acronym forgotten therapist who introduced me to the concept of "Psychic flu." The analogy resonates wonderfully in my strictly personnal healing journey, as well as in providing support for people who are dealing with issues of their own. Don't eat the verbal vomit, nor ask the patient to do so.

Conversation was still stiff and undesireable between us as of bedtime and the baby was fussing in the hands of her Super Gampy, but the night's sleep was calm enough to make me suspect the rest was restorative. What little snipe-free conversation Hubs and I accomplished was focused on each of us getting help for ourselves once the girls start their new daycare on Tuesday. Tomorrow. Big Sis is excited to beat the band over starting her new school.

Did Hubs look disappointed when I told him I would be going my own way on the quest for renewed therapy? He is much more skilled at managing computer networks than running a therapy program. Repeat the therapy adage that spouses make lousy therapists, even when the spouse is qualified to therapute J. Q. Public. My own business as usual of letting him carry on his family tradition of hubby telling all the stories simply doesnae work in a therapy session. This ain't a company party, babycakes. I ain't one of your remodiates (remote workers). For the feminine supporters who are probably gearing up for the standard male-bashing lectures, please remember my speech defect and performance anxiety. For the most part, I sincerely appreciate being able melt into the background while a more naturally gifted voice provides compensation for my speech defect. Sorry if it offends you. It works for me. Still, every coping tool has its limits. Effective therapy is a strictly personal do-it-yourself project.

The VA and veteran support groups are second only to Alanon in my most sustainably effective therapy sources. I still havenae overcome the dogmatic feel I have felt about U.S. Alanon groups since my return from Ecuador in 2008. Works in progress. . . For now, my therapy quest is focused on cracking the local veteran's network and checking VA resources in the nearby metroplex. We see what grows. Keeping my thoughts open to all available options, new and old.

Stepping small and praying big. . . I miss you, my son. Your children miss you and their mama, too.

Small steps and big prayers seems to be the steady course, arfie. Yeah, the judging needs to stop in society. What ever happened to remember that you don't walk in another's shoes so you don’t understand how they fit and feel? My wife and I had a similar verbal follow the leader because of my social anxiety and it worked well for us. It opened doors to me to get out of my comfort zone where without her, i would have been to anxious to even think about trying.

You made me smile describing big sis’ excitement about school. Hope it all goes well. Triple hugs

I was glad to read, "the night's sleep was calm enough to make me suspect the rest was restorative." I'm surprised at how often that simple thing works for me, too. Praying with you as you miss him and the kids miss their mama, arfie.

Personally, I think judgement is a natural and healthy part of the bio-web. I think my chickens are quite wise to judge cats as *bad* and their nesting boxes as, *good.* Yea, cats have the right to eat, too, but I am grateful Nature gave my chickens a fighting chance in the food chain. Get literal with you flight instincts, my feather babies.

Ditto for the more obscure esoterics of human judgement. I have already judged strawberries to be nummy and cabbage to be yucky. Don't try to talk me out of my prejudices and I'll leave yours alone, too, even when the prejudice calls for me to find and exit sign. 'Tis an amazing world we live in and I doesn't mind the invite to see more of it while I leave your house in peace.

Apparently the rest was, indeed, restorative. Big Bro was able to discuss a problem he is having with the current routine of taking him out of school for his counseling session and was comforted with our promise to look into it and talk about it again tonight. The biggest complication of this morning was Big Sis's disappointment that she has to wait until tomorrow for her, "Punkin Patch." 'Tis truly amazing the difference restorative rest can make, even when life is less than perfect.

It is more than a little depressing to think of rivers just now. I miss my river region terribly but it is a 14 hour drive from here. 2 days at my preferred driving speed. I'm not going to get back there any time soon and the watersheds here in the dust bowl make me feel like a sea captain trying to find happiness in a kiddie pool.

Think I'll keep the focus on trying to build my personal local therapy network and let the future take care of itself. For now, I think I am grieving my river dreams alongside my departed son.

On an entirely different note, I paused to question the wisdom but decided to let the flock increase I planned in a less chaotic moment go through. 20 baby chickens are due in next week, with the emphasis on colorful egg layers and hopes that the babies will be producing their colorful wares by Easter. On one hand, I need another chore on my list like I need another psychosis in my psychobaggage car. On the other hand, four out of the five of us have done some heavy duty bonding over our feather babies. Baby Sis has yet to meet a baby bird, but I donae believe she'll be able to resist a baby bird, either. She likes the big birds and they arenae anywhere near so cute.

Way back (3 months ago) when I was still suffering delusions of retirement, I had visions of being in the new house before the chicks arrived. That's not gonna happen, but I managed to carve out space for them here in the small, dilapidated farm house. Works in progress. . . What the fuck am I getting myself into this time?
