Onward
An e-friend alerted me to an oil spill near the Warren Dunes State Park where I am currently camped. I still don't know if I am just making a wandery U-turn south to the Urban Homestead or just a slight detour from the lakeshore, but. . . ?por que no? Bioremediation has been one of my fantasy travel jobs since before 2006 when the volunteer group in New Orleans gave me that name to call it by. I have yet to get paid for it, but I believe healing ecosystem ouchies with Nature's own Pharmacopia is a compulsion which runs much deeper than my use of words. When I built my childish crawdad corrals, I was naturally eco-sensitive about it.
It feels okay that I still haven't decided where I am headed. It be a journey of discernment.
Think I'll shoot for a motel tonight. There is rain in the forecast for the early hours tomorrow and I am still not adapted to the sub-arctic chill. I am still dressed in 3 layers while locals are running past me in swim suits. The camp shower looks cold enough to get me sniffling. I'll settle for a hotel, if I must, but those long, closed in hotel hallways creep me out. I much prefer being a few steps away from my own outside exit. Alas, motels might qualify for an endangered species list these days. There are quite a few places where they are becoming hard to find. The internet doesn't distinguish between hotels and motels very well.

Warmer weather coming so maybe you can explore without a parka.
What's wrong with exploring in a parka?
personally, I think you are quite remarkable for your 'journeys' ....and driving abilities....I can't remember the last time I drove out of a 30 mile radius of where I live...I live by a state camping site....would you believe they charge $30.00 per night for a camping site!!! Insane! Happy travels no matter when you lay your head down....I get the 'chill', at the moment where I live it's a very chilly 62 degrees at 9ish am

ML, I find it quite remarkable that you can stay in a 30-mile radius. I get even crazier when I don't get my wandering opportunities. I believe I am hard-wired to wander. Wandering is *Normal* for me, be it nature or nurture.
That is, indeed, the style I prefer, Jewells. Their site doesn't say if they are pet-friendly. Let's see if I can work up the courage to challenge my hearing issues for a phone call. I already know Michigan is not smoker-friendly, but it seems to be getting easier to travel with pets just about everywhere in the U.S.
Camp is packed and it is time to go. The oil spill isnae far northeast of here, but I believe I will drive the extra 5o-odd miles to follow the Kalamazoo River from Lake Michigan to Marshal. I haven't looked closely at it yet, but I bumped into an EPA has a watch alert on the Kalamazoo River.
If nothing else, "Kalamazoo" sure is fun to say. . .
You could always "go to Hell, Michigan"....

One of the debates on the Great Lakes tour table is how to fit Lake Huron onto the highway tour. I didn't think to bring my passport, so the highway plan only gives me access to the U.S. side of the lakes.
I.F. I decide to cut across to Huron from here, Hell would be more or less on the way.
But my own flight-oriented hyper-vigilance is such that I am usually long gone before the "Go To Hell" portion of the drama arrives. Yet another metaphor that doesn't mean the same to me as it does for some. Context is everything in metaphor usage.
