only two of the 14 holiday house restaurants are left?//MICHELE is sick//dinner at k's
"Newlyweds Bob and Willa Cook opened The Original Holiday House restaurant in 1959 with silverware borrowed from the First Presbyterian Church next door and chairs on loan from the Clyde Lankford Funeral Home.
The shoestring on which they started their business was so thin, they said, that when a customer ordered a steak, one of them would dash out the back to Gene's Meat Market, a few blocks north on Woodland Boulevard, buy the steak on credit and rush it back to the restaurant. When the customer paid his bill, they paid the butcher." lol. love this story!
There used to be FOURTEEN holiday house restaurants. As far as i know, the one in boynton beach (south florida) is still open on route one (federal highway), but from what i am reading, most of them are CLOSED. they recently closed one south of here. i'm heartbroken. i loved that place. they are PACKED DAILY so why in the world did the chain close it? twenty years ago, a chain bought the 14 holiday houses that the original owners put together. the owners kept only ONE for themselves, the original one located by Stetson University. would have been nice if instead of "closing" they revised their status to an independent franchise and made purchasing ONE holiday house available to the public.
would love to know what is going on. why close if you can sell? it makes no sense. they used to have a take out of a full portion of meat or fish and TWO containers FULL of vegetables for the same price as one dinner in. THREE of us could comfortably eat off of that and still have leftover - and super fresh. plus garlic bread.
had dinner at k's. i brought over Biltmore Italian Mascarpone Torta - its more of an elaborate coffee cake/cream pie. don't know how to describe it. excellent with hot coffee. we still have a lot left that i know of. (i still prefer edward's key lime pie, or edward's chocolate cream pie).
we made a day of it because i got there early for a change so that the frozen torta wouldn't thaw or melt or anything. lol. rg was there as well, but he is up in arms about the guy aaron who founded reddit and hung himself when the feds went after him. rg is against aaron, so that conversation ended quick. lol.
i was going to print something about the aaron suicide, he was 25 i think, and brilliant, a self-made billionaire thanks to inventing reddit, but so many have died in january there was no day to post it properly. what a month.
having an awful day to add to the rest of the awful days. michele is ill (so is friendly) but michele has bad anemia...what the hell? she always seemed like that anyway, even with flea meds. i did revolution on a few of them and advantage on the others, at first i thought the revolution did something, but when i looked at her gums and eyes it looks like anemia (bright white, not pink). bought her liver, gave her nutrical every couple of hours, bottlefed her kmr formula and water. it woke her up, the vet says if more than 12 hours have passed (its been 24 hours) the flea stuff doesn't wash off, (i don't believe that as i know it stops working if you wash them with soap, i think his point is if there is a reaction to it and its in the system and its more than 12 hours, nothing can be done. my recommendation would be to wash it off and feed the kmr or milk as milk neutralizes poison to a degree....the book also says milk of magnesia to neutralize it. its another hit me again. wth?
wish a or js was here to go to the marina, i'm bored and tired of empty houses (though i get tired of full houses even faster. lol.)

it also appears that i threw out CAPSTAR, a whole box of it. $30. as when i looked for capstar to get any additional fleas off of michele, instead an old box of Lipitor that i DID want to throw out was in with the animals supplies. when i\'m tired i do reallllly stupid things like that. the boxes are the same size and weight.....grrrrrr. i\'m not thrilled with myself right now.
Don\'t be so hard on yourself. Your always jumping from one thing to another and have so little time for yourself to relax and destress some. I can\'t imagine wanting to go to the Marina, it must be much warmer there then here. It was very cool early this am here. I think 48 again tonight. brrr. Good Luck with the meds.
xxoo
wow! we were in the 50\'s last night. ended up at the marina for a little while with tm. it IS nice down there. i like the fishy air, but we have that at home down south as well, just not as fishy because the ocean air moves the air around.
michele is still holding on and seems perkier. i am bottlefeeding her kmr and doing nutrical on her gums. i also gave her liver blood and smashed liver with water in a syringe. then i let her outside on the deck to air, wrapped in a towel and in the sunshine. have set up a bed of sorts for her on the breeze litter pan that she likes in the summer when its just a plastic vented shelf over a litter pan and she seems comfortable with it. was surprised, her body was cold, but she was still breathing. wth? she meowed at me and got focused in her eyes....wish i had tried these things with big in november....if i get out of practice of nursing the animals, i go through this whole relearning thing and really don\'t have the skills until i get back with it. its amazing how little we all know about illness....
Always a great read.
