ongoing back stuff
can't type long (can't SIT long!) but just wanted to update everyone. Went back to Ortho Surgeon after MRI, and he said THE MOST affirming thing anyone has since this happened. He walked into the exam room after viewing my MRI and the first thing out of his mouth was, "You're not getting any better, are you?" I felt like, thank GOD he gets it. I responded that I sure wasn't and I was getting pretty sick of it, and he scheduled me for an LESI the next day in Little Rock (2 hours away). LESI is lumbar epidural steroidal injection which injects med.s directly into the spine/disc. To be honest, I didn't care, the only thing I heard was "Let's get you some relief!" and I understood it wasn't surgery, and he had me. Had it Wed. felt immediate relief (pre-op shot!!! - WEEEEE!) until that wore off about 20 min.s later. Was sore at the injection site for two days afterwards but felt some relief from the nerve pain (thank God)until YESTERDAY when I STUPIDLY walked up and down stairs incorrectly. Some guys had come over to help me get my pool ready (YAY!) so I can get relief that way, and I swear I DID NOT BEND OR LIFT ANYTHING, but I was stepping up AND stepping down with my "good leg" (right leg is weak) when I should have been stepping DOWN with my bad leg. Man, the spasms hit me and I was on the floor crying like it had JUST happened! That was pretty discouraging. Today, I made it to work and have done so-so. I have talked to physical therapists and a physio - somethingorother and have been doing some stretching exercises that help. I bought a grabber today and have made MANY modifications in my house (nothing in bottom drawers, dog food/water up on top of boxes, table in laundry room, etc. to minimize bending over, with the help of my niece. My friends, coworkers, employer and family have been great! I intend to keep on keeping on and try taking it one day at a time and especially try NOT to get TOO discouraged or look TOO FAR DOWN the road, which was getting me in trouble a few weeks back. Thanks so much to you who keep sending me encouragement and concern. It means more to me than you can know!
