One year later.....
I am SO grateful that I was able to get back behind the wheel and back to work last year, after suffering from what I'm sure was only a 'mild' case of GBS that still put me in intensive care and through the week long IvIg transfusions then another week of inpatient rehab. The worst part was being so out of breath I needed steroids to breathe, then collapsing and being temporarily unable to walk, as well as the terrible back pain that was so severe, it kept me from sleeping soundly for weeks!
I am pretty much completely 'normal' now, a year later, except for the numbness I still get in my hands (particularly on the right) if I try to lay on my side rather than flat on my back at night when I sleep or if I use my hands too much. I can't do push ups (not that I ever could very well). But my hands hurt if I carry anything too heavy for long, it's like the circulation is still not good in my hands. I took Gabapentin when I was under a doctor's care, but now I am under the care of an alternative physician and I've been taking NeuroRecovery. It was helping and symptoms seemed to be getting better, but I'm thinking of asking my doctor if there is something else that might help even more when I see her in a few weeks.
