One year anniversary of ablation

One year since ablation at Barnes St. Louis Hospital.  Still have occasional skip heart beats...every two / three weeks .  Just enough to keep anxiety up enough to continue using xanax when that occurs.  Otherwise off all med's except low dose aspirin.  All in all a good year.  Have had my last visit with the EP and am now back in the tender care of my cardiologist and will do one more 6 mos. visit with him this year then be back to PCP only.   I am optimistic and realistic about my prognosis.  It could come back.  I do have the skipped beats which I think a precursor to an event but it never proceeds to an event.  As I say just enough to keep anxiety up.  I continue to run and as a result of rotten running weather this winter have begun some upper body resistance work which is beginning to take on the compulsive nature that drives my running.  There are worse compulsive behaviors I guess.  Only continuing , not so good , outcome of ablation is a higher heart rate.  Prior to AFIB and drugs , ablation, etc I had a resting HR of about 60/65 after AFIB and drugs (sotalol) I had a HR in the mid high 40's to 50.  Now I'm 80 or so with sometimes 70's.  EP says that is part of the therapeutic  effect of the ablation.  Something about removing the "conditioning" effect.  So I guess that I'll have to live with that and a higher exercise HR.  Doesn't seem to have a debilitating effect when exercising so I'll accept that.  The unsaid I'm sure is that it might be risky (AFIB risky) to deal with the HR with drugs as low HR can be a factor.  Anyway for those facing ablation.  My experience so far positive.
