One week and one day morning

Up this morning.  It is a day off but I need to do some work things this morning, and then my hope depending on how I feel is to go to the coast.
Last night after I walk the dogs, I felt a little squirrely.  So since the liquor stores were closed, I went for a drive.  Light spring air, still warm, window down....it felt good.  And it was different because I wouldn't have been up that late.  I would have been passed out.   And if I wasn't passed out, I wouldn't have been able to drive.  So that was a really nice thing....not drinking has expanded the amount of the day I can participate in.  I appreciate that.
Continuation of a thought from yesterday.  When I am out and about and I have that thought to go to the liquor store, I want to think in that moment what it is that I really want.  Going to the liquor store is sometimes just a knee jerk reaction...and I respond immediately to it.  I don't have to.
Other times it feels as though it is the focus of my whole world and I sit in my truck trying to talk myself out of it.  In that instance, I have rarely succeeded.  I need to figure out what's going on in that moment.  When that time comes, I need to have an idea of how to talk to myself.
I remember one time I was determined not to drink and I turned the way that would take me home and then I turned off to go back and then I parked and tried to get myself back on the road toward home.  I went to the light...right is home...left is the liquor store.  I came to the light determined to turn right...my mind felt very set and............ I turned left.  What is going on in that moment?
Granted I had not set a goal down on paper, and I was not journaling my thoughts and reminding myself in writing of my goal twice a day.  It was only in my head, and having it written out could be a course changer or make the ability to change course stronger, where left becomes right.
I am committed to making a life change.  I need to make this life change.  I have been sober for 7 days, and in that short time, I can already see change.  I like the changes I see. I will foster these changes.
Goals today: the basics:  water, eating, exercise and breathing  Added goal:  Be out of work between noon and 1 pm, the coast would be fun, but see how you feel  And my most important goal:  Do not go to the liquor store. Do not go to the liquor store near your work.  Do not go to the liquor store near your home or on your way home.  Do not go to the liquor store at the coast.  In whatever possible scenario you can come up with where you think it would be ok to stop or to drink, don't. You do not drink.  I do not drink.  I am the tree, not the leaves.
