One of my best moves...
I think one of my best moves that I've done lately is to step away from Facebook. The competitive nature of it was killing me. I'd post things that were real in my life, or try to be vulnerable and open, and inevitably someone would come along and tell me how much better they've done or use my vulnerability against me. It just clicked one day that most of my old friends really were never friends. They were selfish people who put others down in order to affirm their own self worth. Not sure about how it is in the rest of the country, but in New Jersey, it's pretty ruthless. Everyone is out for him/herself. Even your best friends will drop you like a hot potato when you no longer serve their needs.
From now on, I promise myself that I will only be as open with others as they are with me. I will keep an open mind, but my heart needs to close just a little bit because I am not a dumping ground for anyone else.

Sounds like you did the right thing. I hate Facebook. I don\'t go on there at all.
Smart of you. I think it\'s just a world of backhanded compliments and one-uppers. At first, I did it to connect with friends, then later it became more of a tool for my real estate business. Now that I\'ve taken a step back from work to be home with my autistic son, I don\'t really need it too much for that anymore, so it was a relief to be able to let it go. Now I check it a few times per week just to respond to any friends who reach out, but I don\'t post statuses anymore. I\'m free! hehehe
I closed my Facebook account. Nothing special about it. I hate it and found it was not usefully to me. I love this site more. Good to know a few folks dislike Facebook. Enjoy your freedom!!
