One December Day 2009, I sit at UAB Hospital
My name is Sandi. Almost a year ago one December Day, 2009 I lost my son.
A year ago I sit in the waiting room in a hospital in AL called UAB. I am sitting in the waiting room of the ICU waiting to see my son, waiting, praying that through it all a miracle happened and my son is alive.
I sit in the waiting room, I look into the faces of people I don't know. A family here, a family there, a family crying, a family praying, a family making phone calls, a family sitting in silence. We all sit there and we are waiting for news of our loved one.
The sirens are sounding outside the windows, I wonder who...I wonder what has happened to someone now...I wonder about another family. I wonder what that family is facing. Will it be good news, bad news, no news but waiting waiting with other strangers, wondering what the night will bring.
One December Day 2009, I had never heard of "Daily Strength: For Moms Only". I never heard of you who is reading my journal. tHow could I know any of you? But now I do.
One December Day, 2009, as I sit in the waiting room of the ICU the sirens are sounding again....another person family member is being brought in. I say a prayer, I am praying that why they are being brought to this hospital UAB, they will survive, it's only a minor problem and tonight or tomorrow they will go home with their family.
This one December Day, 2009, as the sirens blast, people are running in, tears are streaming down their faces, they are asking questions, they are also trying to find their son. This person I do not know....but I know that this person is in pain. Something has happened and this person's heart is broken, they are scared, they need to see their son, they need to know that their son is okay.
I don't know this person, I only know she is hurting. She can only hope for the best, she can only pray that her son is okay. He has to be, this is her only son. He means the world to her. He is her life. He has a child, a little boy..He has to be okay there is no other way, she needs him, his son needs him, so many need him. But I don't know this person. I do not know her name, I do not know where she is from, but I do know as a mom that this mom is in horrible pain.
That December Day, 2009, I do not know what has happened. I do not know her name. I know nothing about this person or what has happened to bring such tears to her eyes. I can only pray as the sirens have now stopped...now there is silence as I sit in that waiting room waiting for news about my son.
Now it is a December Day 2010. My son has died. Nothing they could do could save him and now on this December Day 2010 I know the name of the mother who also lost her son that December Day 2009....Her name is Sandi.
Tonight as I reflect to December, 2009 two mother's named Sandi lost their son's at the hospital in AL called UAB.
I met Sandi on this site one day in 2010. We both lost our son's one December Day/Night at UAB in AL. We are now connected for life. We may never meet, we may never talk on the phone....but we will always know that one December Day/Night we both entered a world that we never wanted to be in. We are two Sandi's, two mom's who are now bonded for life forever...We both lost our son's.
Sandi, for you loss of your son, I want to say I'm so sorry...This is a horrible week for you as you have traveled this past year to now go through so many 1st at the same time. My thoughts and prayers are with you....I know you need the strength that others can give you at this time...I'm sorry....Sandi

Sandi your heart is still very strong, full of so much tenderness. May love surround you and connect you to Ken. Thank you for writing today!
Love, Sarah
May you move through this time with grace and find some peace. It will be two years Jan. 31st, that my precious Christopher left our world.
Please take good care of yourself.
hugs, Rebecca
May God give you both comfort and most of all peace and continued strength to go on. You are in myprayers. Lynette Bills Mom
I believe that we gain the strength within ourselves while those ahead of us lead us in the right direction. I think I would still be so lost if it not for those who helped (and continue) to help me. I pray you find your path a little more clearly as you enter the 2nd year. It can be rough. You may find this 2nd year to be more difficult in some ways but I trust you will find strength to deal with it. I pray that you do. I began my 3rd year on November 22nd. It has become gentler. Love and Hugs, Belinda
My thoughts and prayers are with you both. I lost Lisa on the 1st day of December, 2009. We walk this path together.

Dear Sandi, and the other Sandi too, my heart goes out to you as you struggle to face life without your sons for almost a full year. It was just 2 years ago when my son was diagnosed with cancer. His surgery was the day after Christmas. He died less than a year later. It\'s a hard hard time. I am grateful that we can give each other strength and love. Linda
And the tears come. The bond last forever.........Peace to you Sandi\'s. Till you meet your children, again.
My thoughts and my heart are with you both. A sad story that brought you both here.....where we offer comfort, support and friendship. Hugs, KIm
