On the Graveyard Shift: YAY!!!!!

The security company calls it the "overnight" shift.  11pm-7am.  Aside from re-training the sleep rythms to later in the day, which is brutal, overnight is awesome.  Not a damn soul awake in the building!  My duties consist of locking the "common" areas (the community rec room), going up in both elevators to bring down shopping carts that residents were too lazy to return to the ground parking lot themselves, and then, the remaining 6 hours, making hourly patrols of the parking lot, pool deck and parking garage, to look for any illegally parked vehicles, water leaks or fire hazards.  The last sorely reared its ugly head a few nights ago; there was an arcing sound that sounded like someone pounding, chiseling on the outside door.  I ventured to investigate to discover one of the light fixtures had popped its bulb and was oozing smoke.  At the behest of the building superintendant, I called him and woke him up at 2am.  He looked at it and said "the electrical system in this building is a joke.  Just open the lobby doors so the smoke doesn't set off the fire alarm, and keep an eye on it".  Will do.
The remaining 40 mins. out of every hour, they have a TV there and I'm basically getting paid to sit there and watch TV!  This is by far the easiest job I've held down in my entire adult life.  I should have landed a cushy security job 11 years ago, when I was laid-off from a high-stress boiler-room job at a TV production facility.  Be $10k a year richer now.  This job doesn't pay a fortune, but it doesn't have to; at part-time, it brings in an additional $600-$800 a month, which takes the pressure off free-lance weekend and weekday activities to make ends meet.  Now, not needing a prospect's money as much, I can charge whatever I want for weekend wedding videos, working with them somewhat, because we're all in an economic recession, and my heart goes out to those less fortunate than I am, but, being kind to myself too, because it'll take the better part of 3 days to edit their wedding video, so I have to charge enough to make that worthwhile for me.
What I love about this job is it really gives me time to think, to really sink into my own psyche and soul and determine my motivation, what makes me tick, what makes me me, who I am and what I want out of life.  I suppose I'm a mixed-breed of being very sweet and loving, and being an evil bully.  And that's OK lol.  Self-acceptance is the first part of knowing what kind of relationship I want to create, one where I get to exchange the power, I suppose...sometimes coast on her laurels and sometimes dominate her fiercely, sometimes coalesce into the warmest, most loving ball of fire...
