On the Bright Side

On the other side of my house sits a 20 foot by 20 foot parcel of yard I have left fallowing for the eleven months I have been living here. "Fallowing" means I have left the soil to rest without cutting it or interfering with its natural process. My fantasy is to put some sort of small orchard or perennial vines over there. Over the course of the past 11 months, blueberries and grapes are my top contenders. 20 x 20 is a small space for either, but I fancy it is doable.
The S.W.A.T. Neighbors live on the eastern edge of this space. Their power lighting displays a postage stamp yard that might have been featured in Better Homes and Gardens with perfect St. Augustine paving the way to an impressive array of concrete religious icons. Plants proven to withstand parking lot conditions crowd around the concrete statues. I have been terrified to allow them any opportunity to opine over the fallowing field which is brightly lit and deeply shadowed by their tribute to suburban perfection.
but the time approaches. I still worry that neither grapes nor blueberries will withstand the 24/7 light stress. Neither are recommended for parking lot conditions. But... If I am to give it a try, this year's season approaches.
Maybe if I pray to one of their Saints first, THEY will give me their blessings...
