Omg... my poor kitty!

So this is totally not IF related, but I needed somewhere to vent. I had to take my cat (Sparrow) to the emergency pet hospital tonight to get taken care of. I thought he was dehydrated (he was very lethargic and hot), but it turns out his urethra is blocked! The vet told me that if I hadn't caught it he would have died and my only 2 options were to have them treat him (catheter up to push the crystals that are blocking the urethra into the bladder and then saline flush to remove the remnants) or euthanize him.
So now we've just paid $1380 something to have the treatment done. There is NO way in hell that I was putting my 4 year old kitty down because of this. This is only half of the treatment he'll likely require. He MAY get to come home tomorrow, if he responds really well, but it's very likely that we'll have to take him to our regular vet in the morning for a couple more days of treatment/observation.
The shitty part of it all? This is completely diet based. Yup, Whiskas went and changed their meaty selections formula/recipe and now my cat nearly dies! He's been eating this food for his entire life, never once had a problem. Now we have to switch his food to something low-ash. The emergency vet will give us some recommendations in the morning after she's figured out what type of crystals are forming.
I can't stop crying now. I'm absolutely devastated and worried out of my mind. Sparrow does NOT like to be held and he definitely does NOT cuddle with me... he let me hold him and was cuddling into me to get loving while we were waiting for the vet. Just before I left, the vet poked her head out of the door to the back and let me know that they used a needle to take 60mils of fluid out of his bladder to ease his comfort until they could start the catheterization process. Sparrow's more my husband's cat, so I'm also feeling anxious about hubby getting home (he knows already, been in contact with him since I found there was a problem with Sparrow). Usually he gets greeted by both pets, and now it's just gunna be the pup and a crying wife.
We can't afford this treatment, but have no choice... It's my furbaby... I can't just let him suffer or put him down when it's a treatable problem!! I know he's in good hands right now, but I can't help but be scared and worried. I just want my kitty to be ok... I want to be able to hold him and love him up again.

Oh, I am so sorry hun. I hope he is doing better. I would do any extra treatments you can at your normal vet, just to lower the cost. But I hope the emergency vet was able to do everything he needs for now. That really sucks that its just his food that caused all this!

I\'m so sorry to hear about this. It\'s actually a pretty common problem with cats, not that that helps your situation. But I know what you mean about spending money you don\'t have on our furbabies. Been there, done that many times. Never regretted it, but it\'s a hard pill to swallow. Hang in there, it\'ll get better.
