Okay, so if that wasn't bad enough...
The weekend was pretty bad, and Monday I was actually kind of relieved when my mother was put back into the hospital.
Until I found out that she had had a heart attack sometime over the weekend (probably).
I spent an entire day completing the paperwork to file for the VA benefits, only to find out that I don't need to file since my mother will probably not be coming home, but going into a nursing home.
I also found out that when my mother goes on Medicaid, they cannot and will not take her house, they can only attach her estate, but will not if she is survived by a child that is totally and permanently disabled by Social Security rules, and guess what? I am. So, according to state and federal law, I can keep living here.
I filed a complaint against the nursing home, as (in my opinion) their neglect nearly killed my mother, and mailed it to the state office, and sent away for my father's military records so that my brothers and I can see them.
I used the Medicare.gov website to check the ratings on local nursing homes in order to give the hospital some choices of places to send my mother for the rehab, and they have given her three weeks of rehab paid for by Medicare. The social worker at the hospital will contact the facilities and if those three do not pan out, I can select a few more for her to try.
My brothers are not helping at all with any of this, but I feel kind of in control. I'm going to send a request to Medicare to reconsider payment for the nursing home, or investigate the nursing home (one or the other), because my mother had to pay over $9K already, and they still want more money. I don't want to pay them for nearly killing her, and think that maybe I should get a lawyer and sue them.
But for now, I have a roof over my head and money coming in and I'm not too uncomfortable, so it'll do.
My mother does have some dementia, but she's better than she was, so that's good. Tomorrow she's going to have the stint removed, so maybe they can clear up the urinary tract infection she's had since they put it in, and if all goes well, things will progress smoothly.
She should be Medicaid eligible soon, and then she'd have her stay paid for by her Social Security and the Medicaid, unless she can come home, then she'd have in home visiting care workers. Honestly, I'd prefer she had the round the clock care, because I want her to be safe, but if the nursing home she was in is any indication, she'd be better off with me.
