Oh my!
My dog had a seizure, saturday morning and my wife was crying and holding her and told me to call the vet which I did and we took her right in. I was kinda glad it happened while she was here because it happened with me alone about a week ago and when I described it to my wife I don't think she blieved how bad it really was.
The vet ran all kinds of tests and said it must be epilepsy so I said how do u know its not something else like a brain tumor and he said, well you would have to take her somewhere else to get a ct scan.
So he gave us seizure medication, valium, paid him over $300 which cleaned out our savings, took her home and she had 2 more seizures during the night, one at 1 am and the other at 5 am. Frustrated, my wife vowed to call the vet back and tell him the valum isn't working. I looked online and ct scans on animals can cost up to $1000. We cannot afford that.
Needless to say I didn't run yesterday and I don't dare go run today until my wife gets home from work but by then she may want to do something else. Plus, I am drained emotionally having been awake for a portion of the night so I don't even feel motivated.
Hopefully, she can get through today without another seizure and I can hit the road and do what I love doing.

I\'ll definetly keep you in my thoughts & prayers today. I used to live with somebody who had a cocker spaniel that had a number of seizures & its a very scary site to see (they are prone to having epilepsy). Very scary stuff. I\'ve had animals too as pets & its hard not to feel so helpless when something might be seriously wrong. Please let me know how things are going with this. So sorry to hear about your dog. I so hope things get better. I will being praying for your family. I think it costs more to keep our pets healhy than us. Their should be some kind of medicaid for pets w serious health problems ya know.

I have five dogs. Two of them suffer from seizures. When the first dog had her first seizure, I was freaking out. I didn\'t know what was going on. I have always had a dog growing up and all my adult life and never had a dog suffer from seizuresso it was very foreign to me. Anyway, I didn\'t take her to the vet right aways because it was a weekend and by the time I found the emergency vet number and address, her seizure had stopped so I decided to just watch her. I completely forgot about it until about a month later, she had had a couple more. I then took her to the vet. He told me that unless they have one several times a day, he doesn\'t usually treat them with any meds. I was a little alarmed but followed his advice. That particular dog went on to have five puppies and we kept two of the puppies. One of the puppies (now three years old) has seizures like his mommy. I don\'t know how often they have them if I\'m not home, but the ones I observe are only about every couple of months. Please don\'t get too panicky about a brain tumor and other things that will drive you crazy. Unless your dog is having them constantly, then I wouldn\'t worry about a CT scan. When one of my dogs has a seizure, I just hold them in my arms so they don\'t hit something hard and harm themselves until the seizure is over. What kind of dog do you have? It would be interesting to know if it is more common in a certain breed. I\'m sorry because I know how scary it can be. Hugs. Robin
