Oh shit what do I do now?
I just don't know what the hell I"m going to do. My mother in law started having mini strokes Sunday afternoon. Whole left side of her body just went kaput. So we called an ambulance, and damn it if the second she came around she started squalling about how she couldn't afford this, and how she couldn't afford for her premiums to go up, and on and on. So she checks herself out despite doctor's orders not to. She gets back here to the hotel, and within the hour we are having to call out the paramedics AGAIN, because she is mini stroking again. This time I refused to let her talk her way out of the hospital again. She was trying though. I pulled out my "trump card" as I like to say. I took my daughter with me, and let her put it on her. I finally just asked her (Lord please forgive my blatant rudeness) "Do you want to be the retarded fucker drooling on themselves sitting at the back of the short bus?"..harsh I know..but she's so damned hard headed it kills me. All I could think was "The Almighty Dollar is going to be the death of this woman." She just wasn't herself, her logic made no sense, well of course not, she's having mini strokes. It's kinda a shame that doctor's can't look at someone like her and have the power themselves to keep folks from checking themselves out when they are like that, but I have to look at the flip side of that too, I guess.
So now we find out she has an almost complete blockage of her left carotid artery AND a blockage on her brain. Great, just fucking wonderful. As if the house fire wasn't enough shit to deal with. So now she is at Wake Med in Raleigh at the Heart Center waiting for the doctor's to finish up and get to doing surgery. The removal of the blockage in her artery is not the part that worries me, it's the removal of the blockage in her brain I am worried about. I notice that she has been repeating herself too. I went to see her today, and she just kept repeating that she didn't want my kids to worry, about how my daughter was her little angel and my son was her little man, and to tell my husband not to worry that she would be alright. Makes me wonder what kind of damage has actually occurred.
I know the doctor's are saying she isn't getting the oxygen she needs to her brain. I saw her yesterday evening too, to let my father in law get a shower and all, and while I was with her, her oxygen saturation dropped to 85 %, so I went and got a nurse to put her on oxygen.
Now I have to find out all these numbers to places that she pays bills to, start the process to try to get her on at least temp. disability if not full, and I have to deal with the hotel, the home insurance people about the house and the rebuilding, and although I don't want to be stepping on any toes, and want to fully believe that she will make it through this, which she probably will, I have to go find out what she has in the way of burial insurance (We know she wants to be cremated) and what ever else there is. There is just so much shit I have to find out and do I don't even know where to fucking begin.
And on top of all this, I got to go to my appt. to see about surgery for myself, which depending on which way things go, I may have to put off for a bit.
If we lose her, I don't know what I'm going to do with my husband. We just lost his grandmother not too long ago, and it would devastate him to lose his mother less than two years later. I'm praying real real hard that she make it through this. At least she is awake, talks to us, although repeats herself, and can use both her arms. To me that is a good sign, a lot of patients who have come in with having had 6 mini strokes are not able to do that or be as coherent as she is now.
I just don't know where to start or how I am supposed to be dealing with all these people that she is financially responsible to. What the hell am I supposed to do if I have to find out her bank information because she simply can't? For the love of God I swear I don't want to have to go there, not for one skinny second. My father in law don't want to leave her side for a second, and I don't know that he would want to take that responsibility on either. They are not actually married, they would be considered common law, so I don't know what his rights would be concerning taking over financial matters if it came down to that. And I sure as hell would not want to be stepping on his toes either, if he chose to take that responsibility on.
I'm glad that her cousin knows what to do in these situations, I have a feeling I will be calling her quite frequently to find out what I need to do to make sure my mother in law doesn't lose everything that she does have. That is all I am concerned about, making sure things are still ok when she gets better. How fucked up would it be to get out of the hospital, only to find out you have no home because someone couldn't pick up the pieces and make sure the payments got to the mortgage company, or that your health insurance dropped you because a payment to them was not made, and now you have the hospital looking to you for the part the insurance didn't cover?
These are my biggest concerns. I know I have to face them. But because I have never wanted to know my mother in law's business, there are some things I simply do not know. Hell I didn't even know her birth year was 1951 until today. 06/04/51..Tomorrow I get the joyous task of going through her paperwork in her hotel room to try to get all these numbers and people gone through...oh joy of joys.
And not to mention I find out my 14 year old daughter has been lying to me for the past year about her boyfriend. He is 18 not 16, lives in Florida and does not go to her school by any stretch of the imagination. She's never even laid actual "eyes" on him, just skype video chat and yahoo IM and phone texting. I've been keeping an eye on what they are saying and sending to each other, and it has always been very kosher. I went so far as to put an awesome program called ReFog on her computer so I can see EVERYTHING typed, sent , pages visited you name it. It took me sending out a "spy" to find out though. When I confronted her with the truth, she fessed up. I told her dad, and he told her she had to break it off. Neither of us yelled at her, it would have been pointless.
I think I'm going to be sick. :(

Sorry everything sounds so rough. Sounds very daunting to say the least. Hopefully the surgery will go well, they can do remarkable things with stroke type surgeries these days that was science fiction before.
That\'s what we are all hoping for. Thank you couggenny.
She needs to set up a power of attorney with her son or partner. It should be done asap. That way checks can be written etc. (this is very urgent) Good catch on your daughters activities. Take care.
Thanks Colleenie. I just found out today that my father in law doesn\'t even know how to fill out a check. O.o huggss. Hope you are doing well.
