Oh Mother's Day

I skipped church today because I wanted to avoid the mother's day extravaganza. Still, most of the day, I had to listen to the whoop-de-doo going on with the families at the church next door, which they then moved to the social hall down the road, and continued well into the afternoon. Yes, everyone has a happy attentive family but me, I get it already.
I enjoyed weeding my strawberry patch in the beautiful morning sunshine. I thought about my own mother, gone these many years, and shed a few tears over that.
Woodrow Wilson is the so-and-so responsible for declaring this tragedy a national holiday. Just to let you know from whom it originated, every picture of the man shows a guy with a really long face. There you have it, that's the face of mother's day.
It's not that my kids forgot. My daughter had to go with her husband out of state to spend the weekend with his family. She didn't want to go and was really miserable there. She called this evening to wish me a happy mother's day. My oldest son wished me a happy mother's day only after I wished his wife a happy mother's day. I had to call him the day before to get her cell number. She sent me a picture of her holding my grandson, it was really nice, we texted back and forth for a bit. My youngest son actually stopped by, though he wished he didn't have to. He brought me a hanging basket and some lottery tickets. He stuck around for a while and complained about his life. Thank goodness it isn't Mother's Week eh?
