Oh Mother n Laws....
So, I have the kind of MIL that has been talking about having grandkids since before we were married. My DH has one brother whose been married about 3 years longer than us, but they don't have any children either. So, needless to say, my MIL was thrilled when we got pregnant.
Well, I have GD and we were told when I was diagnosed that the latest that they would let the baby stay in was 39w. So, that moved the expected delivery date from 11/12 to 11/5. So, I've been having my twice a week NSTs...growth scans every 3-4 weeks, etc. My DH talks to his mom on the phone regulary--like every week or so--and updates her on all of this stuff. A little while back she started making comments about election day (11/2). She works the polls and it's something she likes to do. She told my DH that if she misses a year, she won't be able to return (like some rule they have). I just ignored the comment. But, I guess every time he talks to her she keeps bugging him about when the baby is coming. He keeps telling her that we won't have a for sure date until the final growth scan on 10/15 (36w).
So, yesterday I get in the mail a letter addressed to our baby from my MIL. (They live about 6 hours away). So, I opened it (it said in care of my DH and I)...and it's a letter to our baby Grace about how excited my MIL is to meet her, but would like for her to try to come 10/25--10/30 so she can still get back to work the election polls because she likes it a lot and she has a higher paying position this year. She even wrote that if my daughter will cooperate there will be a special gift in it for her and then include "maybe your mommy can help us on this."
??? One, if I have to get induced prior to 10/29 I need an amnio--which I don't want to have. Two--how intrusive into our lives can you get?? I showed it to my DH and we just sort of sat on the couch staring at it. He thinks his mom just doesn't understand what he's been telling her. So, we decided that if we do get to pick the date (like the doctor gives us a date range we need to deliver in and we get to pick), we aren't going to tell anyone that we had a choice--we'll just say it's when the doctor told us we had to deliver.
But, have you ever heard of such a thing?? Writing a letter to my unborn child--how passive aggressive.
