Of Wild Birds and Old men
Have you noticed wild birds have gotten more sophisticated? They have developed a sophisticated taste. Remember when you could throw some old bread out in the yard and a flock of birds would swoop down and fight for it? Now, they won't even come down and take a look at it. Oh, Noooo! They prefer feeders. And those feeders better have the right seeds in them. They won't touch the cheap feed unless they see some expensive sunflower seeds or millet. You'll find all the other seeds on the ground as they move it out of the way to get to the good stuff. And what becomes of the bad seeds? They become weeds in your lawn. My back yard is living proof. I love to feed the birds, but I can't afford the fancy stuff right now, so I put out the bread ends and any popcorn left over. It sits there and eventually makes fertilizer.
You've seen those gray haired old men that have trouble walking. They hobble around doing the best they can to shop, drive a car, take their dogs out, and take the garbage out. And they talk,,,to anybody. They just start talking to anybody about some of the most ridiculous things. They don't even have to know the person they're talking to! Well, I've become one of them! It's taken a while to figure it out, but, yep, I'm one. I'll talk to anybody about anything,,,,guys at the convenience store, the stockers and cashiers at the grocery store, people pumping gas. If they stand still long enough, I'll talk to them. And, I look the part,,,messed up hair,,baggy clothes,,,odd headwear,,unshaven,,and I even wear suspenders. It embarrasses me that I do that, but I can't help myself. I've become someone I used to make fun of.
