October 4, 2010

good morning all,  What a weekend I had.  Saturday turned out to be non existent.  It came and it went in one blink of an eye.  I had an inventory at this warehouse that distributes vitamins and energy drinks.  I hadn't done this inventory in years, prior 2 owners ago - back in the days where the inventory was done on paper and pen and counting the boxes while they imput our counts.  fast forward to 2010, we now use the machines.  we had to scan the scu #, lot #, Amt # (with the worker helping with counting) and manually keying in the amount.  You had to be very careful because the lot # and the exp # bar code was right next to eachother and that would mess things up on the reports for later, we had to be espeically careful.  I went up on the hydrolic cages (Wdspirit1 knows what they are!).   I was very careful to scan the right bar code from the finger laser.  We had plenty of their workers as partners.  I had my friend Jim who works with us  (he also works for this distribution center) co worker Kevin.  He manned the hydrolic cage.  It wasn't so bad because I was still feeling under the weather and it was easier for me to be in there so I wouldn't be doing too much walking back and forth.  Besides, most of the palates way up there (C,D rows) were full palates and the amounts were already on the sheets.  Kevin and I did all of the B's, then C's then went way on top D's some 30 ft up.  I wasn't that nervous but I heard someone made a huge stink about going up on them and they sent him/her home.  At least that was the rumor - not sure if that really happened.  Everyone was talking about it.  We had a break at 10-10:15, had my mountain dew code red (yay, they had code red in their machine!).  Drank that on the hydrolic machine but after about 2-3 times going up and down - it went flat.  At noon, they fed us pizza.  Sat upstairs with a few of the guys from our group.   One of them, he is the moodiest guy working with us said that he is getting ready to retire from the inventory after working 25 years (he is my age - that means he probably started when he was 20).  He really is odd because he comes to the table and his pizza is mush because he got a gob of topping.  Yuck.  It was disgusting the way he was eating his pizza.  That 30 minutes went fast, I left the table and found Kevin - by then I used my same mt dew bottle and put water in it (nice and cold).  We finished off.  We finished the actual counting of the inventory - 7 hours.  whew!!  Then Greg, our supervisor was manning the computer and Kevin (different Kevin) their manager was manning their computer system and was running the reports for rechecks and do overs (variances).  Me and 2 others did that for about 3-4 hours.  Then when they had a break of it all, then our Erie PA auditors were deleting all the voids from the system (there was 3000 entries), me and the 2 others helped out.  First off, those girls were bitching because we were sitting around waiting for rechecks and redo's and not helping do the voids then when we did help, they bitched because there was too many people helping.  Jeez...we didn't win.  Anyways, they left at 4-5pm and Nataniel and I stayed til the duration.  We sat, checked on things, sat somemore, went off with some of their workers to check on other items and recount.  One area we checked about 5 times (felt like groundhog day).  Turns out one of the team leaders was on that row with one of their workers and screwed most of that section up.  Nataniel said that Paul ran stores pretty crappy and couldn't count for nothing.  I know, he had a very hard section.  Most of the rechecks were areas that were partially open on the "A" rows.   These workers really knew how to add, subtract - I was impressed with their math skills.  None of my areas on top were wrong because they were full bins with plastic.  so I was 100%. Just when we thought we were almost finished (about 8:30), Kevin notices a bunch of issues - 90!  Most of the issues were on the company end at that time.   At the end, Nataniel and I stayed until 10pm.  Thats 15 hours of inventory work, whew! I was so exhaused.  God knows how long those 6 people, their managers and Greg stayed.  I am thinking another 2 hours, until midnight.  This distribution center has a location in Oakville Ontario Canada (West of Toronto) (I found this out because I went to check on an item with Kevin their manager).  2 of them were from their canada location ( I think they were the company accountants).
I didn't like the fact that everyone had an excuse and left earlier.  they originally wanted 15 auditors to stay but it was myself, Nataniel and the 7 other Erie PA auditors (which left at 7-8pm).  Definitely not right.  I think Greg had my # because I don't complain too much.  Nataniel too.
That was Saturday (a washout).  I was suppose to get up at 5am and head out to Perry NY (40 miles away),  meet people to drive together at a Tops supermarket but you know....I just did 15 hours at that warehouse.  They can't expect me to get up a few hours later for another inventory.  Jeez....I was sick last week with the sinus infection- do they want me to get sick again(I drank plenty of water throughout the inventory which saved me).  I sure hope Nataniel didn't go yesterday morning.  I will find out later when I see him at the next inventory sunday (if he's scheduled).  He said he had school work to do.  Knowing him, he probably went.
Stayed home on the recliner on Sunday, laptop in my lap, cat by my other legs.  My landlord Kevin called to say that the part for the furnice was in and he and his brother in law were coming over today to work on it and get it to work.  That apt got down to 59 degrees (especially when I got home Sat night...burrrrr).  Hot showers, sweaters and 2 blankets, the cat, the laptop, and small spaceheater helped during the weekend....LOL!!    I did grandma's laundry but didn't get it to her but today will be a better day.  Mom called and told me about grandma having a TIA stroke.  I guess it affected her speech and memory.  Wanted to warn me about it if I hadn't brought back the clothes (she knew I was sick during the week).  I accidently grabbed the other mesh bag and dad had to find a garbage bag to put her clothes in.  So, Dad will bring her other clothes today and I will bring them over tonight (before 7).  Thought I put it on the closet doorhandle like the previous week.  Oh well.  Mom will be able to do her laundry - she needs to keep moving with her knee replacement.  Dad will have to drive the clothes back and forth until she is released to drive.  Mom is home, getting therapy from the doctor's office for a few weeks.  Doing well.
Thats it for the weekend.  I was bummed when I woke up at 6am and it was monday.  I didn't have much of a weekend.  Next weekend will be better than this - getting my hair cut/highlighted (YES!  I am getting 4-5 inches taken off) and possibly going to ellicottville fall festival with my friend Deb (I hadn't seen her in ages).
