October 3, 2011 - new update

Thank you so much for being there for me guys!  It means a lot to me.  Im sure you would like today's update (I might have to write daily on here again).
The day turned out to be another drudge monday. I go through the weekend happy but when it comes to about 8pm sunday night - I start to think about coming to work and having to deal with the stupid crap that goes on all week.  By Friday my brain is shot and my stomach is in knots.  that is no way to live.  Especially with all the health issues I've dealt with in the past few years.  I keep thinking to myself "its a good thing she wasn't around last year with all the "dr appts, tests and uncertainties".  I am glad that Rosanna was with us for all that.  She definitely would have gotten me for time and attendance issues, much worse!  Job prospects are horrible now in NYS so I really need to hang in there.  I am willing to lose my job in order to collect unemployment immediately (if I did a voluntary quit - it would take 6 weeks).  Its just this up and down attitude with her!  The unknown that If I do 1 slip up, I will be written up further and perhaps terminated from a job I've been doing for 6 years.
When I walked in this morning, Arlene and Sonja came to the window to make me laugh.  They are extremely goofy girls.  I know what they were trying to do.    I came into the their office to say hello.  Arlene gave me a message to call one of the sites because there were RN students looking for their instructor.  I called the secretary and asked her what kind of students were there and to call me back.  She called me back and told me it was RN students, she got me intouch with one of the students and grabbed her cell # to call the school coordinator.  I left 2 messages.  While i was on the phone with the student, I had to place her on hold so I can punch in (my watch alarm said 8:00am). I then emailed the school coordinator the situation.  I proceeded to look on the grid schedule and it looked like it was a new rotation starting today.  Discovered that the instructor was brand new also.  She needed to hand in paperwork from the students (HIPAA and attestation forms) to me ASAP.  I then called the skilled nursing unit and spoke to the director (who use to run the skilled unit at my site) and told him the situation.  He went to talk to the manager of the skilled nursing group to get additional input.  I asked him to call me (I never heard back from him).  Meanwhile, I called the student twice and she had her phone turned off.  I left messages asking for an update on the instructor issue.  Ifinally got through to her and asked her to have the instructor call me so we can talk further about additional info (paperwork, computer classes).  She called me back about 20 minutes later (this was about 9:15am) and talked to her about the paperwork and a few of the computer classes she needs to get into (primarily the medication computer class, not so much the electronic medical records because she teaches the Skilled nursing students).  I got her in touch with one of the nurse educators over at the site to help facilitate the paperwork and answer any questions (never heard back from Heather all day).  Meanwhile, all this was going on - I told Jen ASAP (after I was working on this for 20 minutes).  She also asked me to send an update email to Diane  so she is aware of whats going on.  Finally got through to the School coordinator.  Turns out that the students and faculty were in 2 different places waiting for eachother and the instructor starting today is a very late hire.  Jen's reaction was "we should have gotten this instructor name, they were all hired back in early sept".  How does she know this? Apparently this person wasn't and was hired last week.
I continued to do some busy work (updating the medical supply listing - to make it more readable).  About 12:30, Jen comes in and wants to talk.  I figured, good!  she wants to talk without HR breathing down my back.  I opened up the conversation and told her that I really care about the department and would like to work with her on the good and bad things.  We talked about the above situation.  She still thinks that the schools shouldn't be accountable for getting their instructor lists to me and its up to us to get that information.  I was the one who did the legwork on the situation this morning.  Am I really at fault on this? I felt I was.   Then,  Wendy from HR asked for information by email about a Clinical Trainer workshop.  Because I gave her incomplete info, I was repremanded for it.  Isn't this crazy.  What do I have to do, take the high road, jump hoops, leap high in order to answer an HR question?  I personally think that was a set up in order to help a manager who needed the information (He is a big boy, he could have emailed me for the information and help - why was HR involved??).  I tell you, I am extremely dissappointed in Wendy from HR.  How can someone go through life be so miserable as she is?  Diane, the HR assistant doesn't even like her that much either.  She wasn't like this when I first got to Gates 6 years ago, she use to eat lunch with us.  Something must have happened personally for her to be like this.
Overall the meeting with Jen was short because she really didn't have much basis to go by.  My councelor said that Diane must have told her to layoff the discipline and go talk to her.
Now Jen wants me to get all the TBA instructor blocks taken care of.  What I did was a table with all the TBA instructors so I have all the instructor names accountable.  Then I did each table by school and sent it to their nurse coordinator (she did tell me to do that but I know what to do).  Some schools have 2 units without an instructor on the grid schedule and others have 10-12 units without an instructor.  I will follow up with them in 2 days (maybe they will have their lists complete by tomorrow - I know!  I am reaching for a result).
Mary came into my office to go through some class schedules on our learning management system.  I was happy to sit down with her, go over the schedules and get her requests taken care of.  We are working well together and keeping eachother informed.  We are both on the same page with the cardiac class for 10/11 and how people are enrolled (now we are up to 26 + 6 non kaleida nurses (from other area hospitals).  We enrolled 3 extra people (1 for Judy, 1 for Mary and another last minute - each people mary is like "Thats it, we have to close this - how dare they force us to enroll these people!"  At least it wasn't me and mostly these damn managers wanting to get people into a very conjested class with high amount of people.  I will need to put a work order in for plant ops to have them bring down 7 desk/chairs for the extra people (today is monday - this will happen on Wed).  I really am starting to appreciate Mary and she is teaching me to be alittle more organized.  She is turning into my "most improved" instructor.  While talking to Mary, she was kind, supportive and willing to work with me (alot better than the journal that I complained about her).  Because the seriousness and importance in setting up the tables for the TBA's, I wrote a list of things that mary would like to set up and take care of this in the AM.  She was ok with it.
Thats the update I have for you today.  I will hop on here tomorrow and give you a daily update (at least this will help me get through this week).
I see my councelor again in 2 weeks on October 19 at 4:30pm.  Seems to be  helping.  I told Judith that she is here to support me and to keep me grounded while I go through this rollercoaster of a situation.  So, I might be seeing her probably every other week.

This whole thing sucks, Jen. I wish I had some words of advice for you, it seems this woman has put a target on your back....the only thing you can do is what you are already doing. Get her what she wants, ask how you can improve, get her approval on things before they go out, if that\'s what she wants.
