October 28, 2011 - 1st full week unemployed/job search

Good afternoon everyone,
Seems so strange to type this at 3pm.  Seems so strange to be at home all week.  Seems so strange that I am unemployed and looking for work.  Hate the change of weather to keep me indoors.  Wished this was summertime so I can enjoy the warmer weather.
Im actually doing ok this week.  I think I left off going to the BETC.  I didn't return this week.  I figured I would start fresh on Monday and Tuesday when I see the employment counselor.  I have been working 4 hr days looking at websites, putting my resume on them.  Applied at Erie County Medical Center, I didn't get the job.  It took me about 2 1/2 hrs to fill out the damn application.  I saw a lot of executive secretary/assistant positions.  Didn't get a lot of email bites.  1 was for an insurance company.  I tried to get on the website to set up a time but the website kept locking my computer up.  I did call the company but no one has called back.  Im not holding my breath on that one (perhaps it might be a blessing).  A staffing company called me to come in for an interview on monday.  I need to get my hair cut tomorrow - no interviews this week.  Sonja called me at home, told me about an admin assistant job at Buffalo General Hospital in their dietary division (through another company - Sodexho).  I couldn't find it yesterday (the only thing I checked out) but I happened to be on one of the other websites today and located it.  I applied for it, sent a resume.  Hopefully they will contact me.  I actually felt sad when she called - I think it was missing her, Arlene, Mary, Kelly and Bonnie.   I talked to Sonja yesterday (thursday), it put me in such a funk that I didn't do any searching whatsoever.   Sonja gave me all of her email addresses.  She's got about 7 of them (I don't think she's got enough email addresses...LOL). I had other calls come through but I have been screening the calls but they haven't left messages.  I am assuming its spam, because the # that keeps popping up is "31".  It started this morning.  Pretty scarry since I like to keep myself pretty private.  If it keeps up Im gonna have to block the call.  We'll see what happens in the next day or two.  I also printed off some jobs from my cancer hospital, those are very high paying jobs (Assistant/Secretarial positions).  If I can get into Roswell Park Cancer Institute, I am set!  Lets just say its about 5G more than what I made at Kaleida Health (and my previous rate of pay was excellent).  I need to construct a stellar coverletter with my resume before I send it to them.  That will be a weekend project.  I got my reference page done, called those who I wanted on there (so they won't be surprised to get a call from a company on behalf of me).  My college career management class told me to contact reference people so they are aware.  Not just put their name and they would be surprised.  I picked, Chris Bellari - Nurse instructor coordinator from Erie Community College, Robyn Gordon - Daemen College Physician Assistant Coordinator, Kelly Foltz Ramos - Nurse educator (one of my buddies), and Clarisse Williams, Unit Secretary coordinator (from Visiting nurses association prior to my x job).  They all know.  I am excited to know that they are 100% behind me and will give me a stellar reference.  Next week:  I have to go to the BETC for a Job Search/Interview class on monday and tuesday (see the counselor on tues) next week.  I have the interview at the employment agency at 2 on monday.  The rest of the week, who knows.  I do have a employment counselor appt at 1pm on Wed the 2nd (I am the first appt after she goes to Kaleida health and speaks to the Nurse Residency program at Millard Gates (my old hospital).  the last I spoke to her, she was less than thrilled to go to speak to the nurses.  Looking forward to hearing about it.  The rest of the week, Whatever goes - continue to look at the websites, perhaps try and get a few interviews lined up.  I wonder if my black suit fits me?
I think I better brush up on my typing skills.  I will be taking a typing test monday.  I haven't taken a typing test in many years.  Im gonna have to find my typing practice CD somewhere.  I think its in my laptop bag.  I'll find it, then download it on here.
anyways, I need to get going.  I've been in my pj's all day.  Haven't felt like getting dressed today.  I also have to stop getting up at 10-10:30am every morning.  I need to try and get up by 9am.  Im getting very laxed.  I have to contact unemployment on Sunday morning.  I may have to set my watch alarm for 10am so I can do this (I just did this).  Now I won't forget.  Wish me luck on Monday at the employment interview.  Yes, I am nervous about it.  I was extremely professional on the phone, getting her phone # and the persons name that I spoke to (to show that I am paying attention to detail).  She seemed nice but didn't give me the name of the company - she said its somewhere in Williamsville (which is only about 15 minutes from here) but its northeast instead of going downtown buffalo.  When I worked at Visiting nurses, it was located in Williamsville.  the employment agency is right down the street from there.

You\'re already making progress. Good luck on your interview for Monday. I think you\'re going to come out just find through all of this. Don\'t worry about having some downtime. It\'s a really stressful and depressing thing losing your job and saying goodbye to your work family. Just remember that they wanted to get rid of you regardless of what you did. It\'s not a reflection upon you and it\'s their loss.

I\'ll take your typing test for you. LOL!!! Just do your best and do fret too much. Try typing pages out of a book for practice. You are doing well and keep up the good work.

Gosh - you really have got your hands full. I know I\'ve mentioned it to you nefore but I donlt know whether you are doing it- but to help keep motivated please think about drawing up a 30/60/90 day plan and plan every week to get you to your goal- It will help you stayon target and even if nothing comes up for a while you will see all your progress in ink. Good luck- I\'m in hospital next week for my big op and when I come round after surgery on 2nd November will be looking forward to some positive update from you and - so keep at it. Try taking baby steps rather than cramming too much in so you don\'t overdo do it and get overwhelmed with everything- There is a job out there for you and it will turn your life around- I\'m sure of it. Love jUlie x
