October 25, 2010 Grandma and other family health issues

Hi Everyone,  I just got word that my grandmother passed away this morning at the nursing home, approximately 8am.   She was 89 years old.  I wondered about her for a few months.  Her memory was going, she was going blind with macular degeneration in her eyes and she was losing her hearing.   It was like her body just shut down.  At the end, she was fighting for her life.   I was suppose to see her this weekend but in a way I was very hesitant.  It would have not been a pretty sight.  I remember the last time I saw her a few weeks ago, right after her stroke - she was so child like and innocent.  In a way that was probably my farewell to her.  We will have a memorial service for her in a few weeks.  Uncle Jim, my godfather is with my mother right now and the home is clearing out her room as we speak.  I feel so fortunate as being the oldest grandchild at almost 45 years old to have had her in my life for a long time.  I have so many wonderful memories of her that I will always remember.  Being there as the oldest grandchild, I had additional responsibilities toward my grandmother (and grandfather and great aunt).  Whether is was doing their laundry, visiting them and helping them with things, picking them up for family gatherings.  I was there, happily doing it.   Now my job as eldest granddaughter has expired.  I have no other grandparents left living.    Now she can become a referree for my grandfather and great aunt.  They were always fighting when they were alive.  After a while, Grandpa avoided aunt eleanor.  LOL!  I can honestly say, she did live a good life with all of us,  89 isn't that bad.   I just hope to live that long.  Can't promise that because I have PKD.
Aunt Judy, my godfather's wife is at my cancer hospital with colon cancer.  She is there right now and will be there most of this week.  Mom and I will visit her on Wednesday when I go for my 6 month mammo.
Dad kept this quiet about his PETT scan.  He will probably go while I have my mammo done.  Geez...Roswell Park Cancer Institute is now a family wide hospital.
Please god, enough.   I think my WHOLE family has had enough of sickness for 2010.  I am happy to hear that my uncle agree's with me now that 2010 needs to be done now.   December 31 better come fast.   I don't want to deal with this anymore.  this is getting out of hand.
Anyways, so sorry for all the sadness.  I am really ok with grandma.  I am alittle sad right now but I know she is no longer suffering.
Besides, I have to do my 24 hr urine culture test today.  Yep!  Pee in the brown container.  I have the brown bag looking at me in the eye.  LOL!!  the life of being a kidney disease patient.  That will keep me busy today.
