oh lord.
I just drove 560 miles to check in on Mom. She blew out her knee last weekend - it needs to be replaced. Original equipment and apparently the warranty has expired. Happy Birthday, Mom, way to celebrate turning 84 (tomorrow).
Last night I downloaded Shatner Rules to listen to on the 11-hour schlep. Made me laugh out loud several times.
Finally arrive in Mom's home town, everything is booked due to fall tourism (and yes, the foliage this week is amazing). The only available room within 20 miles of her is a honeymoon suite.

Non-smoking, heart-shaped aqua jacuzzi with the sign "Do not use." Heart shaped bed. Heart shaped mirror over the bed bordered with flashing red lights (for which you can control the speed). Radio/cassette player with speakers built into the headboard. Mirrors on EVERY wall. Dimmer switches on all the lights (thank GOD). McDonald's on the other side of the parking lot for that romantic meal.

I'm sitting here, still bouncing from the highway, and I hear loud music. At first I thought it was the bar downstairs and that rhythmic thumping I heard was dancing. Then, as a few more brain cells fire, I realize that as I'm on the 3rd floor, it's more likely my neighbors, and that, umm, well, I GUESS you could call it dancing.
I have to say, given the duration and speed of the alleged choreography, I'm impressed.
When I told George he could not stop laughing. "Did you tell the receptionist that you brought BOTH hands?"

On the bright side, I guess it's job security. (I teach children. They don't grow on trees. But I might have a quieter night's sleep tonight if they did.)
