Hi Everyone,
This week was really slow. I worked on my insurance agent online course again but didn't take the chapter test on "insurance basics" yet. I have to re read that chapter before I take the test. I will update everyone on it in a few days.
I think I missed out on a few opportunities at an employment agency. That was my own damn fault. I didn't follow up like I should have. I will have to call them on monday. They need to send me the word/excel and typing tests to me by email. They never sent it (or they sent it to a wrong email address). Im sure there will be other opportunities elsewhere. I also feel alittle nervous about working temp jobs. I probably shouldn't feel that way but I am still in the middle of healing after what happened to me. I really need to get back out there and do somethin - I can't be unemployed for very long. The only way to be ok is to get back out there again. The company my cousin Donna recommended will get a followup email, resume and coverletter. They probably want to know what coding/billing classes I have taken with my administrative assistant degree (accounting I, medical billing procedures, medical office procedures, ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding). I will send a quick cover letter explaining those. Im sure they would want me to sit down and take a little quiz before I get hired. We'll see what transpires from there. I am about 60% sure that I might not come back as an admin assist unless something transpires with the employment agency (such as a perm temp to hire).
I ran into a former co worker from the hospital system at the BETC. She use to work in IST training and education. She taught me the horrible office/medical supply system back when I first started in 2005. At first, I didn't recognize her but when she smiled - then I recognized her. She told me about a few managers who got termed, let go. Including a few upper management people. I never hear about middle management like other admin assistants but I am sure that happened too but its not advertised. I understand that they will be letting go all LPN's very soon - including the ones who have worked for the system for 30 years. I do get a few short emails from Arlene but its only regarding those people letting go. Haven't heard a peep from Sonja, I know she was off for a few days. I wonder if she will be under fire when she gets back (we all know how much Jen likes time and attendance - NOT). I wonder if I will hear from her next week. Todd (nurse educator) is on his way out in a few weeks - I haven't heard anything if he found another job (I heard there isn't anything - even for the RN's). I have seen a few Kaleida people at the BETC in the past few weeks (I don't know them but they just look familiar). Thats all I have to say right now about my old hospital system.
I am handling unemployment ok. Financially I am doing ok as long as I don't do any frivalous spending. I have my xmas club account check for xmas presents so I am safe. I usually get about $390 every year but this year I only received $375 (its based on the interest rate/stock value that the credit union has). My best year was 3 years ago and got $410.00. I plan on not going over $375. If someone is under, thats it - I can't devert from that. I currently have about $1200 in my checking at M&T (monday will be about $1500 when my unemployment check gets deposited), $200 in my savings at M&T, credit union - $200 in my savings and $950 in my subsavings. I should be ok for alittle bit. I have a checking acct at the credit union but I don't use it anymore. I need to keep it open in order to use my debit card - which I use it for gas for the car. I have my unemployment direct deposited in my M&T bank account every monday - 341.00 (I call for my claim on sunday mornings). I am hoping something will come through for me into January. Like I said before, I figured I would be out of work for at least 2 months. I wouldn't know what to do if I was out of work for longer than that. I'd have to figure something out. Lets not panic too much. I don't know how fast I will be generating $$ on the insurance agent work but I will need to figure that out ASAP - as long as I pass the license exam.
Thanksgiving was great. Went out to my parents on Wednesday to help set up the sportsman's club (which my dad and uncle belong to) for thanksgiving. We had about 30 people. The hall is a nice size and it made the 30 people look small in the room. Mom, Dad, myself and my uncle dick came down - set the tables up. bring in everything for the celebration. we kept the decorations simple. told my uncle about running out of gas, he wouldn't stop teasing me about it (dad too). I still can't believe I did that. we were there until 7:30pm. I went home to crash. I was so tired. Went upstairs to my old bedroom, turned on the TV and fell asleep. I woke up at 2am, tossed and turned. Thats what I get for falling asleep so early. I had nothing else to do - mom went on the computer to play her computer games, dad was sleeping on his recliner watching the military station. I told a few local friends that I was in town but I didn't hear back. The next day - I got up at 10am (dad was gonna check to see if I was breathing but I was already up at 9am and watched TV for an hour in bed). Helped mom with a few things, put some items in the back of the SUV that we forgotten the day before (they were joking with me the night before "Jen, you have a young mind - remember we need to bring A, B, C and D.... EXCUSE ME!! I have a 40ish year old mind - I don't have a telepathic memory....Mom wrote a list...LOL!). Dad was peeling potatoes. I joined him. "a family who peels potatoes together, stays together" definitely the motto for thanksgiving this year. I whinned the whole time I was peeling. Dad said I missed on a few potatoes. He had to clean a lot of them off- he is such an expert and I am a novace. Mom said I was a messy peeler, peels all over the floor. Oh well. We went back to the club so mom can put the turkey in their oven (she did 1 turkey at home - we had 2) by 1pm. we were only there for 15 minutes and went home (the turkey cooking in the oven at the club - which is only a 5 minute drive). Got ready, then I drove my car followed them over. While mom was back doing a few things in the kitchen - dad asked if she wanted a glass of wine and to ask her for the wine opener. She told me that there was a wine opener at the bar where he and uncle dick were at. I yelled at Dad and told him "THERE IS A WINE OPENER AT THE BAR!!" He turned around and sure enough it was there. Jeesh....I surprised myself because I never raise my voice to him (I was brought up with a very strict father - can't yell at him or else I'd be not living, he would have killed me). After we all ate - at 6pm, the girls (my 40ish year old cousins - there was 5 of us) and I went back to the kitchen to clean up. There was so many cleaning up that I think I only dried about 10 dishes and we were done. My brother brought his WII game. I didn't play it this time but I watched some of my cousins kids do the dance WII and my brother, my cousin Dianes son, my cousin Donnas daughter and my cousin in law play bowling. My cousins son was really good - he's only 10. My brother showed my 2 uncles the golfing WII. That wasn't as interesting as the bowling. We then exchanged names, I have my cousin Diane for a gift exchange this year. I laughed at my cousin Debbies husband because he keeps getting my exchanges from the years before, I had my 4 year old cousin Johns boy about 2 years ago and Jim had him last year, this year Jim has my uncle Dick and I had uncle dick last year. Now if he gets Diane next year that would be funny. Diane had some really stupid things on her list - sweatpants, sweatshirt, sweaters. I am going off the list this year. Dumb!! After that, we had a contest to see whether we can draw a pumpkin with our eyes closed. I didn't do too bad, the pumpkin looked like he was smiling from a side view. I didn't win, it was chocolate. I was there until 8:15pm and went home (I was tired from the turkey). I drove all the way back to Cheektowaga (which is a 45 min drive).
Catch everyone probably monday or tuesday.
