November 10, 2011 - a whole lot of nothing!
Hey everyone,
Couldn't sleep its 12:12am. I don't have any pressing interviews or things to be done tomorrow. I might just go over to the BETC and work on some more Powerpoint 2007 training CD tomorrow afternoon. I've been working hard so its a wait and see day.
Today was such a waste of time. If your concerned about conseco bankers insurance and becoming an insurance agent. I went to another agency - it was an insurance company. They seemed pretty shady and didn't feel comfortable at all there. They asked me about 2 questions and I was out the door - in about 8 minutes. I felt like they were farming people in and out, high turnover rate company. Hope they don't call me. I was there at 9:02am and left there at 9:08am. They didn't even explain their company and what they were all about. The company name was national income. it even sounded shady. What a waste of time. Oh well. At least I checked them out. The only one I liked there was the receptionist, the person in the interview room with me seemed too serious for me. What I liked about Conseco bankers insurance is that the people are super friendly, shake your hand and remembered my name from the 1st interview. Then I went to the Dept of Labor job bank orientation. What a waste of time that was. I am already in their system (I even had to fill out the paperwork, again - the same paperwork I filled out when I signed up for BETC). I know it was for the unemployment. Just sitting in the orientation seemed to be extremely boring. Its the same type of training classes but a different location. I did sign up for their job club which is 2 days a week - different days than the one BETC will have (my counselor is running it) on fridays. Not this friday because its a holiday and they are closed.
Tomorrow is a free day. I will look online for jobs. Try and see if I can apply for anything that strikes my interest. I do have to give Kim from AP professionals a call - she didn't get a chance to send me the Excel/Word test as well as their typing test. I should get high marks since I am doing this here.
Friday I go see Kathy from Conseco Bankers. Its the final interview process. I think I am going to give this insurance agent job a go. Can't hurt to try. The worst case scenario is that I become licensed and hate it. happens to everyone. I think its time to go a different direction when it comes to my career path. They want me to become a medicare specialist - which I know I can do it. The online class will most likely take me to almost the rest of this year. Then hopefully get ready to take the licensure exam around the 1st or 2nd week of Jan. I was told it is 1500 questions. I already have my ss card to that will be good - I have to bring that too. I will fill you on my progress with the materials and the steps involved with the company. There are about 8 steps which will take me all year to do. All I know is that I can make double-triple the $$ than what I made at Kaleida. While I do this, its business as usual - I will continue to look for that perfect job. If I can find that long term temp job with AP Professionals - then that will take me exactly that with the course.
AP professonals said they have jobs that range from 14-17 an hour, such as my cancer hospital and my insurance carrier, independent health. Haven't heard anything so I guess it will take a bit of time.
Oh! I found out from a girl who was in my group at the one stop employment center that she was from Kaleida Health (my hospital site) and worked as a respiratory therapist. She was terminated 2 weeks ago. Turns out that the reason why the hospital system is in the red is because the CEO of the system decided to give the executives of the system huge bonuses and now we are in the red. The president of the site I use to work at is now going to be the president at Buffalo General Hospital. Thats fine, I like Tammy but what ever came of Larry? I haven't heard a peep from my former co workers. I would imagine they were told not to talk to me for awhile. Which is wrong in so many levels. I figured they will talk to me in due time. I did get a card from Arlene, which was a nice touch. I still haven't called her back but I know she will be home babysiting her little baby granddaughter and will call her then. I also heard that the Visiting nurses association is getting ready to do some major cutbacks. They are closing down their homecare respiratory department. A few of those guys have worked for the VNA for over 25 years. This includes some of the customer service reps. From what I remember, there was about 5 of them. Im glad I am not there anymore (that was 6 years ago). Who knows what else they will cut back over there, how deep they will lay people off, terminate people. I guess I won't know until either Sonja or Arlene tell me (maybe just Sonja - Arlene has given her notice (then again, she has given her notice before and has reconsidered her decision)) or seeing people from Kaleida health come through the BETC doors (its right down the street from Buffalo General).
Thats it for now. I'll be back on in a few days. I know I keep bringing up my old hospital system but when I ran into that respiratory therapist and what she had to tell me it was worth mentioning (like I told you I would tell you as I found out). The longer I am away from my old job, the less I will talk about it.
