November 1, 2011 - general update on searching for a new job!

Good evening everyone,
I have been staying busy this week.  Went to the BETC to take the interview class that takes 2 days.  The 1st day was ok, the guy who taught it was like 75 years old but extremely knowledgeable.  States that only 5% jobs come from the internet job sites and 48% jobs come from recruiting.  Thats crazy.  I haven't hit my stride yet so I guess it is a learned lesson.  The 2nd day today, 2 women taught the class.  Went though a lot of the services they had at the BETC.  Lots of stuff, I will be looking with the BETC for quite sometime.  They definitely gave me hope.  They gave me this recruiting website where you would put your field (ex:  medical adm assist) and pops a bunch of companys that employ people in the field of choice, click on the company name and out pops the HR rep with the company website and phone #.  All I would be doing is calling the HR rep and checking to see if there was any jobs that opened up that didn't get posted on their website.  If not, I would send them my resume and coverletter for consideration.  Its something I will check on tomorrow.  I see the employment counselor on Monday 11/7 at 12:30pm - I will keep you posted as to how that went.
If any of you have the BETC in your state, I urge you to look into it if your unemployed.  GO!!!!!  They even have grants available for new job training!!!!!!!!!!!  Haven't decided if I would look into it but if I see myself still unemployed by Jan 1, I will be doing so.
Yesterday, After the BETC - I had an interview at an employment agency.  It was about a job but I didn't have experience in medical coding ( apparently, they were looking for experience oh well).  I did take their employment tests in word and excel and scored the top 95% and typed 61 wpm.  The employment agent seemed really excited about my scores.  There isn't anything they have now but will contact me.  I have to get another copy of my social security card (I went down there today to get one - it will take 3-5 days) before I can get any work from this employment agency.  My job salary is 14.50.  Again, it seems to be higher than what they have (most are 10.00 ridiculous!  I am so use to hospital base pay!!).  I have to live - I have rent, utilities and other bills to pay.  I am by myself here in this apartment.  I didn't get my associates degree for nothing!!  If I got a 10.00 an hour job, that would be a 7.00 dip and why did I get my degree......Come on!! Jeez.....
I also went for an informational interview for an insurance agent job.  All it was was informational.  Listened to what the guy said.  Alot seemed interesting and would be worth a try.  They better not dig their heels because I am on the verge of changing my mind.   Its 1850 base pay + commission.  I haven't heard back from them today (I wrote out a questionnaire and handed it in) - so I will give them until the end of the week!  Thats it.
I have a phone interview with Geico.com.  Claims representative.  on Thursday morning at 9am.  I will listen to what they have to say.  I heard today that they hire about 60 people and their turnover rate is pretty high.  At the interview job, one guy was there and he was getting emails from potential employers one job was one of the emails I received a few days ago.  As a group, we decided that the job was a sham so I will not be furthering this.
I have been receiving a few facebook messages from a few of my hospital colleagues.  Its nice to be missed.  I don't miss that job at all.  I miss Sonja and Arlene.  I won't be talking to them for quite sometime - they have to deal with my work and their work for awhile until they find a replacement for my job (wanna make a bet someone from the academia field gets this job - one of Jen's admin assistant co workers. most likely from univ at buffalo school of nursing?).  We'll see.
I found out that I will be getting 350 a week from unenjoyment (as my brother calls it..LOL).  Its ok, but I still have to watch my pennies.  I should be ok for the next 2 months while I am looking for work (its gonna take me at least 2 months to find work, I am already aware of it).  I am going to apply for cobra benefits due to my PKD and Tuberous Sclerosis pre exsisting disease.  I need to keep it up.  Its gonna cost me over $500 a month to keep this up.  Thats gonna pinch, thats for sure.  What can I do, I need insurance and cannot go without it.   Unemployment even told me to go to their job search agency next week.  I am not sure if their affiliated with the BETC but I will find out and call tomorrow  If so, I am all set.  If not, I will go and work with them too.
Anyways, Its great catch up with everyone.  Still trudging on with everything...life goes on and I need to keep going.  I am not about to  sit down and not do anything.  I want to find work - with a good salary, benefits, good employees and most of all GOOD and FAIR MANAGERS!!  I can't stress that enough.   You all know what I've been going through these past few months - pure torchure.  Not one person would put up with that behavior.  I am sure you agree with me.  I see the Employment counselor tomorrow and looking forward to giving her an update.  I'd love to hear from Sonja and Arlene but I know its just not so.  I will contact them but I just want to leave them alone to deal with everything that was handed to them.  I still feel bad that this has happened to them but what can I do about it, nothing.  I know they are working on the spring schedules this week so Arlene has her hands full now.  Sonja has nurse residency program tomorrow so she has been unavailable for the past week or so getting things together.  My employment counselor is suppose to speak at the program for the nurses, then I will be her first appt right after she gets back from the hospital.  I may call Arlene around Thanksgiving to see how she's holding up.  I will call her at home though - for fear that she threw her hands down and quit too.  Wonder if Jen is targeting others now that I am not in the picture.  Well, thats not my concern now.
My friend Simone from Imaging has been corresponding with me.  She's got her own issues in her department.  She has given me some interesting ideas to put in my mock portfolio.  Getting some recommendation letters....I will have to investigate this further.  I might try and contact some of my nursing colleges to see if they can give me a recommendation letter.  Anything helps.
Catch up to you later.
