Nothing New, it's a good thing

Since my Aunt's vote of support for me and chastising of my parents I am so happy to say that things have felt... well... normal. My dad does not look at me like I'm dying and my mom stops getting all gushy whenever she talks. We can talk and joke like we used to. I think a lot of that has to do with their friends. My parents told their two friends, a husband and wife couple, both former NYPD cops, that I am gay. Expecting their gruff exteriors to be evidence of a conservative ideology, they were thrown for a loop. Apparently, their response to my parents were "So what? You should be happy for him. He knows exactly how and where to look for love, and LOVE IS LOVE. It doesn't matter who you share it with. This is GREAT for him and you should be thrilled". It seems at every turn my parents are finding that their outmoded view of the LGBT community is not shared by their peers. They are literally being shocked out of a closed minded shell. My mom still makes her f*g jokes, but this week, she's actually caught herself and corrected herself. Real progress is being made. I don't think either of them have cried this week.
