not sure if it was a good idea
Yes - both of my boys are doing better as far as managing themselves. The oldest of the 3? He always managed himself well. Even his teen years went extremely smoothly. When he was an infant I guessed I sensed he was mature for his age even then. In fact, I used to call him Mr. Man. Funny how all of my boys made a significant mark up at the high school. The oldest for academic awards, involvement, very well-behaved, good reputation; Second one for his various talents, various awards for group projects ,off-beat - wacky ways, mischief (long story), depression (school was well-award of his suicidal threats), and then there is T. I bet the school is so done with our family. Although my husband and I have been involved and very supportive of many of their fund-raising events - including the new soccer field in which my husband was responsible for a fairly huge donation for through the organization he was involved in - I'm sure they are looking forward to seeing the last of us. I certainly am ready to move on. Even though they have been more than patient, I am done myself - after being at that place for 8 consecutive years and possibly 8 1/2, it's time. But not until T gets his diploma! Met the new caseworker who replaced Alan, the former one whom I really, really liked. This one is female and I wasn't sure about her, even before I met her. But I was pleasantly surprised and think she will be a great assest. I like the way she talked to T. T didn't show up after school here at home and when I told her he wasn't home when she arrived, she said she wasn't surprised. I told her that things have improved a lot, even from the time I talked to her on the phone the previous week, and that his not showing up, surprised me. Well, we talked for awhile and a half hour later T arrives. He said he chose to serve his detention after school. If a student gets a tardy, they are to serve it the following day. He's never done that. He skips it and because he does, he has to serve a 2 hour detention on Wednesdays. We all have asked him why he would do that and he says he forgets - especially since many of his tardies were on Fridays (meaning he'd have to remember to stay after school on Mondays). So yesterday he remembered but forgot about the caseworker coming. It worked out because I then had a chance to chat with her. Because of T's marked improvement, maybe it was a bit premature, but I allowed him to go to a concert that many of his friends were going to last night. It was all last minute and he didn't even ask me. I offered. And what was I thinking? It happened so fast and after he left I thought.....what the heck? On a school night? Concert where young people rountinely use drugs/alcohol? Well - I guess it was because he's been so good and I wanted to reward him for his efforts. Probably should have thought it through but it is too late now. He didn't come home until 1AM. I couldn't get him up. I did a no-no though.....I called in sick for him for his first class. He is failing this one anyway and has no chance to pass but still has to go. So he's not missing anything but even getting him up for the 2nd class might be difficult and hard for him to stay awake for the rest of the day. Oh well...... Another reason I could kick myself for letting him go is.........his drug dealer "friend" is still in the picture. T left his IM up when he left and he contacted this guy. T asked him "any word?'' and this fellow said "nothing yet". I had asked T about it and he said he was asking him what time the indoor soccer game was on Monday night that they play on. Yeah this 20/21 year old kid plays sometimes on his soccer team. I told T that there other kids he could ask and why would he ask about it on a Thursday night when the game isn't until Monday? I don't believe him but .....his behavior otherwise tells me he's not using. Just wish this jerk was out of picture. Two parents told me that they heard through their kids that a rumor was going on that T stole over $5500 from this drug dealing "friend". I told them I saw something on-line about it in a conversation T had with one of his friends a few weeks ago and knew it wasn't him. If he had that money, we would know. He is always scraping around for change. My middle son knows this guy and verified that this guy did indeed have that amount stolen from his home. This drug dealer, Tom, quit college and doesn't have a job and has $5000 laying around his house. Seems like he WAS doing very well for himself. Great. T still associates with him. Still can't believe he can stay sober. If this Tom were out of the picture - it would make things easier, that's for sure.
